With the advent of auto focus on Nikon cameras came electronics in the lenses. These electronics communicate with the camera. Since the camera controls the aperture, it needs to be set at the high end to allow the full range of f-stops. I.E. it cannot set f-22 if the ring is on f-8. With all of the modes available on the camera. you control the setting or the camera does, its just no longer a mechanical function.

Nikon N65 with Nikkor 35~80mm AF lens will not focus or shoot

N65s were notorious for bad shutter release buttons. The metal is thinner than a strand of hair and they break. Search Ebay and see if the part is available to replace (note: Nikon stopped selling parts last year).

Hello! I have a normal NIKON N65 SLR camera. I am going to buy a digital SLR camara. Is it possible to use my old NIKON lences for my new NIKON digital SLR body? Thanks in advance! Adrian

Yes for the higher end cameras - not for the cheaper ones as they use a lens with a motor inside instead of the one in the camera body (you can use your lenses and focus manually)

Nikon N65 won't take a picture

If you have the lens set to the lowest number, you should be seeing a FEE error on the display. The lens needs to be set to the highest number, typically 16 or 22.

Nikon n65 will not take pictures

nachbor,
Not knowing if you are shooting in auto or have recently switched from manual to auto shooting you may have adjusted your f-stop on the lens, make sure you adjust the ring to align with the auto setting (the f-22 in red letters) with the dot on the lens) then the camera will be allowed to open for enough light to take the shot.

Auto Focus Nikon N65

amyfesh,
I have been finding a lot of these concerns while looking back at unsolved SLR issues, it shoots at the ceiling or the sky because there is just enough light the camera detects. Check the lens ring for a white dot and the ring for the aperture rotate the ring so the red f-stop (usually in red and f-22 or somewhere near that number) align, now the lens will open enough to allow the light that the camera has determined that it needs, now it will allow the shutter to open. I just joined the fixya in December, so I hope to hear from you if this helped and if you have any other questions about the N65.

Make sure your lens has the aperture ring to the minimum f-stop number, i.e. (f-22, f-32, largest number) and the focus switch set to 'S' or 'C'

kumar1177,
It won't affect you pictures and it is more an aestheric thing so if you can live with it do so. If you want it repaced a reputable camera shop or Nikon can replace the cracked viewfinder, get an estimate first since that work will most likely have to be done by the shop or Nikon.
