Question about Nikon Digital Cameras

3 Answers

I have a Nikon D200 I have been using in high school football stadiums shooting football, using a Nikkor 2.8 180 ED lens. I have noticed while shooting there isan orange horizontal strip that appears during continuous shutter. The first two frames will be correct exposures, but the third through fifth frames have this 1/3 fram strip of orange first on the third exposure and in the middle of the fourth and on the bottom of the fifth. I have no idea what is causing this. I have checked all my settings and am about ready to take it in to be checked by a repair facility. Please help, Jamie Mckee

Have tried resetting the settings of your camera to make sure that this is not a problem with some of its settings , but if still the same after the reset this can be a problem with the lens....

Hope that helps......

What is 55-200mm?

That's the focal range of a zoom lens. Unlike a single focal-length lens (or a "prime" lens) a zoom lens lets you adjust the focal range. "55-200mm" specifies the lens's focal range from 55mm at the low end to 200mm at the long end.

You can read a general description of zoom lenses at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoom_lens

Nikon current has two different 55-200mm lenses:

If you're asking about the L110, it has a permanently-affixed lens and will not use either of the above lenses.

I have a Nikon D3100 and want to buy a zoom lens 70-300.Please help I am confused is a Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G compatible? And is it automatic focus?

That lens will work with the D3100, except for the autofocusing. In order to autofocus with the D3100, you need AF-S lenses, such as the AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED or the
AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR.

Nikon Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Vs. Nikon Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX are they the same len or not? thanks, Ricky at rpotter@eatel.net

No. The VR lens has 15 elements in 11 groups, the other has 13 elements in 9 groups. This indicates that the two lenses have different optical designs. The main difference, however, is that the VR indicates "vibration reduction." This lens has motion sensors and tiny motors that move the lens elements to compensate for camera motion, producing clearer pictures when hand-holding the camera.

I used my 80 - 200 f2.8D ED nikon lens on my D200 body, There is " fEE" blinking sign on it. But if i use my 18-70 lens there is no problem. What wrong with my lens ?

nothing is wrong with your lens. when you mount the 80-200 make sure the aperture ring is set on the highest f-stop (F22 or F32). there is a small lock that will lock the aperture ring in this position. if the camera thinks the ring is not in the "highest" "F" position you will get the error.

I have a Nikon D90 camera with a 180 - 300 lens that I use to shoot photos of my boys playing football. I have always had crystal clear shots from the stadium. Now that my boys are playing Varsity at...

Obviously, shooting the pics at night requires a longer exposure. If you haven't changed any settings from your daylight pics, then your camera is probably setting a slower shutter speed to compensate for less light in the stadium. You need to raise the ISO setting. You could get a faster lens, experiment with both aperture priority and shutter proiority, etc. But try the ISO first...that may do the trick.

Focus On My Subject

Change your metering mode to spot metering. Focus on your subject with half-press of shutter button...hold that press while you re-compose the picture and press the rest of the way. See if you get better results.

This is normal. Bear in mind that the JPEG file has all the image processing done, while the RAW is just the raw data. Depending on your image settings (contrast, saturation, sharpening, etc) you may see some differences.

Very soft focus on D200

Hi Amanda, welcome to FixYa.

Try this to fix your focusing issue. It's a custom AF setting.
Press the Menu and select the pencil icon. Then you'll see Custom Setting Menu on the LCD display. Click down to Autofocus and then click to the right.
There are 3 choices here: FPS Rate, FPS Rate + AF, and Focus.
Set it to Focus.
FPS Rate is the default setting, the camera will take 5 frames per second whether it's in focus or not.
FPS Rate+ AF forces it to slow down hoping to get more frames in focus.
Focus sets the camera to fire only when in perfect focus. It slows you down some, but it will save you from deleting all the blurry ones.

Try this and let me know if it works for you with a comment.

Ken Rockwell has alot of tips and tricks (including the one I just gave you) in a pdf telling all about your camera. You can read it here. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d200/users-guide/d200-users-guide.pdf

Enjoy your camera and feel free to rate my solution.
