Question about SanDisk 8GB microSDHC Memory Card with MobilMate Micro Media Card Reader

1 Answer

SanDisk 8GB SDHC card cannot be read by either computer or T-Mobile Dash phone.

I have the 8GB SDHC SanDisk card and the reader that comes with it, but when I plug it all in and try to open it on My Computer, it doesn't pick it up. It says "Please insert a disk into drive F:" no matter how I fit the card into the reader.

I also have the same problem with the T-Mobile Dash phone, it won't recognize it when it's inserted into the card slot on the phone.

I have the same problem w/ my T-Mobile G1. I had a 2gb sdhc mem card that I used in my blackberry pearl before and inserted it into my G1 and it worked fine. But for some reason it won't always recognize the 8 gb sdhc card. I tried to format by directly putting the sandisk into my parents desktop and it wouldn't do anything. Couldn't even right click to get a format option.. I don't think I can, but is there a way to format the sd card while it's in my G1? You think they would put that option on the phone itself...

Solution :

Put the card in your phone, link the phone to your pc and format the card through your pc. You should see two additional drives, one for your phones memory and one for your card. I had the same problem with my phone but it is now sorted !

Hello, it depends how old your equipment is as SD cards and SDHC are not necessarily compatible, so if your pc and printer were designed in pre-SDHC days, then you probably wont get any success trying to reading your card.
SD cards only support 2gb max, and in order to support larger capacity for the same style card, the mapping of SDHC cards is totally different, so SD-supported equipment can't 'understand' the new mapping circuitry.
There's some interesting reading in Wikipedia which might clarify things better than my explanation.
Of course, this might not be the solution, but it's worth trying out an SD card if you have one, but I've noticed that SDHC cards are being advertised as SD cards; the only clue that they're actually SDHC is in the capacity, ie, >2gb.

the card is really shorted or crashed can be said!! till my knowledge it can't be fixed! so go for a new card instead of trying that again and again which may even damage your phone or card reader later!

No, it's a hardware issue. Your 8GB card is an SDHC card (the HC stands for High Capacity), but the card reader in your machine is clearly only compatible with the older type SD cards. SDHC devices will accept SD cards, but devices designed solely for SD cards cannot read or format SDHC cards.

There is no firmware update for this, your only fix is to buy an external reader compatible with SDHC cards for connection via a USB socket. Most new readers are fully SDHC compliant, but check the specs for shelling out your hard-earned...

Your 8GB card is considered "high capacity". You will need an SDHC USB card reader to read it.

Formatting troubles for a 8gb Sandisk Micro SDHC

Hi Tony,

Have your My Computer window open and re-insert the card into the reader. If it doesn't show immediately, then right click and choose refresh. It should show up then.

yes, some of the older readers will not recognize SDHC larger than 2G. you can buy a USB SD card reader off Ebay from Hongkong for a buck with shipping.
