Hello:

Usually the disk has a little small switch, move it to unprotect the disk.
If your disk does not have an little small switch or button, Use directly an utility program to delete the normal partitions and format the disk.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

MobileLite Flash Drive From Kingston isn't recognized by my computer

Sometimes when a flash memory stick fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.

When the flash memory device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Healthy.

You need to format the external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchanged between MACs and PCs).
Insert the external hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Health.

Pen drive not opening on xp

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Initially, pls try the pendrive in another computer to verify that it is a pendrive's issue and not the PC's USB port.

A couple of things you can try:
  • use a file recovery utility/program (such as GetDataBack) if there are important files in the pendrive;
  • go to the pendrive's manufacturer's website and download (if available) recovery software;
  • use a utility program to scan/clean/fix, something similar to ScanDisk or Norton Disk Doctor.
If the above will not work:
  • format the pendrive and try to an un-format/recovery software;
  • format the pendrive using HP USB FlashDrive Utility; adn try again a file recovery software.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Mass storage device

I suspect that the "Portable Media Serial Number Service" local service is not running.

You can check this by opening the Control Panel<AdministrativeTools<Services. Look for the above service and make sure it is running. If not set it for "Automatic" and click the "Apply" button, then "Start" by right clicking the service and click "Properties".

Let me know if this works!
