Downloading GART AGP drivers to my VIA chipset

The new Radeon card that I'm trying to install requires that I download GART drivers to my motherboard ( KM4M MS-6734) chipset by VIA.
When I go to the MSI site and try to run LIVE UPDATE 3, I get an error message and it fails to load. All programs are closed and anti-virus is in game mode (Bitdefender 09 has no option to turn it off). Flashing the BIOS manually sounds complicated not to mention risky.
Am I out of luck and should I just sell this new video card on Ebay? The onboard card I have now works fine but it will not run the helicopter simulator program I have.

Thanks Pablocsa. there are so many warnings about a mis-step in flashing the BIOS resulting in a failure to boot that it intimidates me. Live Update 3 for updating drivers seems to be so easy, but when I try to download the program I get the error on page message: 'document layerload Active Web X Dev' is null or not an object. I think my problem is with Active X, but I can't find Active Web X Dev on my computer to delete it under the Add/Remove programs. I was going to delete it and reload Active X, then try Live Update again. Maybe you can tell me where to look for Active Web X Devloper on my computer. Do you know if GART drivers would be included in the latest driver update for the motherboard chipset? The simulator manual stresses that it is VERY important that a custom Virtual GART (AGP) driver be installed for the card to function correctly with the motherboard.

By the way, your post about the bios manual update is giving me more confidence. Your help is much appreciated.

Update the bios manually is not complicated.
But If you don't know about this or not have the experience necesary I recommend
that it is better for your to keep your old video card.

Windows 7 do not accept (my Sapphire 4650 Hd Agp ddr 2 1gb graphic card) drivers when I upload drivers .how I will make upload for my computure?

This is Sapphire's link for downloads:
I entered your info and it appears the card #100288L Radeon HD 4650 1GB DDR2 has Windows 7 support. This card requires a 400w or greater power supply and, a 6 pin power hook up. You have to un-install the VGA driver and Catalyst control center before downloading new. You can do so in a "custom" uninstall then, a "custom" install.
You can also try to update your drivers here.

I lost the 845GVML V:3.1 motherboard driver. Can you help me?

Your motherboard uses the Intel i845 "Springdale" chipset. The chipset drivers are still available from Intel; you can download them directly from here:

Open that link in your browser and save the file to your Desktop, so you can find it later. The file is small (about 2.8 MB), so the download shouldn't take long.

Once the file has downloaded, find it on your Desktop and double-click it, then follow the prompts to install the drivers.

NOTE: This file does NOT contain any GRAPHICS (AGP or GART) or USB drivers. If you need those drivers, you'll have to identify your videocard / videochip and download the correct drivers from the manufacturer, along with the proper USB drivers.

Good luck with this; let us know if you have any questions.

I have not been able to add any AGP card to my PC.
My PC is a cube PC so I have been trying to install a "low end" AGP video card without a separate power connector. My only really requires are DirectX 9.x support and a minimum of 128MB (and no power connector)

The card I am currently trying to install is a Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9600Pro with 256MB.

I have also tried a ATI Radeon 9550 with 256MB and a Nvidia card

I have done all of the usual things, such as disabling onboard graphics, removing old video drivers, verified latest chipset drivers are installed, I reviewed the graphic adapter and don't see any conflicts etc.

I wonder if any of the cards I am trying to install will work with my AGP slot.
The manual for this Gigabyte card states "AGP 3.0 Slot or greater is required"
Unfortunately, this requirement wasn't on the Gigabyte or NewEgg web sites or the back of the box. Only in the install manual.

My Motherboard manual states "AGP 1.5v Card is required".

I got great AGP information from I used some of the tools suggested there such as Sandra Lite and other tools to try to determine what version my AGP Slot is. These tools don't seem to clearly state what

My PC is a Small Form Factor PC with 220W Power Supply.
It has integrated Intel Extreme Graphics
gBox P4 Blue CF-986L
Motherboard is a CFI-968L with last bios released (1.04)
Pentium 4 3.06Ghz
80G HD
Chipset is Intel 845GE
Intel Extreme Graphics
Windows XP Home

This is a awesome PC and I really would like to extend the life of it my adding any AGP card that supports DirectX 9.x

What graphics cards can I use with a KW7 motherboard

Do you have the Motherboard Manual for your Abit KW7? If not here is Abit Support, and the Manuals download page,
(Just copy then paste it into your address bar. Press the Enter key)

The top file listed is what you want, not the KW7-G listed below it. Click on the blue icon. (Monitor with an arrow coming out of it)
This is a Zip file. A small window will come up, where you choose to->
Open with, or Save file. Click on the circle to the left of Save file.
Now go down and click on OK.

If you do not have your downloads set to go to your My Documents folder, (Start>My Documents), this zip file will go to your desktop screen. In either place double-click on the file name. In the next window go up to the top left, and click on -> Extract all files. Click on Next, then Next, then Finish. Now double-click on the PDF file icon.

Page 5 tells you it's an AGP slot for a graphics card. Page 21 tells you that it will support AGP graphics cards UP TO AGP 8X.
(Either an AGP 4X, or an AGP 8X. You do not want an AGP 4X graphics card! You want an AGP 8X graphics card. Uses 0.8 volts. {AGP 3.0 version)

You should also download and install the VIA 4 in 1 Drivers, if it hasn't been installed already, (Your motherboard has the VIA KT880 chipset)
(Read about the VIA 4 in 1 drivers on Page 51 in the Motherboard Manual)

Also here is a list of drivers available for your KW7 motherboard, from Abit Support should you ever need them,

Now if you are asking specifically what AGP graphics card should you buy, and install, I can give you an example. Only based on what I think. Use your own judgment.
1.Sapphire Radeon HD 3850, with 512MB of GDDR3 graphics ram. It's an AGP 8X graphics card. Only requires a 450 Watt power supply with a 30Amp 12 volt power rail. Does need 2X4 power cable from power supply.

ATI Radeon 9600XT

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Appreciate the direct "ask Me".

Some motherboards require a separate AGP port driver to be installed before the drivers of the AGP video card could be recognized. This is specially so for 8X. Perhaps the solution requires that you install the complete motherboard drivers including the AGP port before installing the ATI 9600XT drivers.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
