Spiral dipstick in new car

The car has a dipstick which has a spiral through most of its length. Cannot check oil. Familiar with proper use of dipstick. I think that the spiral is wiping oil from the inside of the dipstick tube and the oil is running down into the reading area when I pull the dipstick out. Repeated dipping doesn"t seem to help.

A lot of cars have these sticks. It’s best to dip first ting in the morning before the engine is started the oil would have settled by then. Otherwise when it’s hot leave it for an hour then dip it.

SOURCE: oil dip stick

Had the same problem last year - the plastic handle broke off and the top of the remaining plastic was visible down the tube but was stuck solid. Finally used an easy-out to get it out. Drilled a small hole into the plastic and then threaded a thin easy-out bit into the hole and it held enough for me to pull the dipstick out. Stupid design, a plastic handle on a metal dipstick!

Here in Canada the Intrepid is badged as a Chrysler. Sounds a bit dodgey to me :-)

SOURCE: dip stick tubing

if the end that is on the bottom of the new tubing is smooth then the old one should twist out with a bit of force no particular direction to pull off though just twisting

SOURCE: how to read oil dip stick

What engine is in your A4.  Normaly if the oil is in between the hash marks on the dip stick thats good,  If above or below hash marks this is bad.  To properly check oil level start vehicle up let it run for 30 sec.   Shut vehicle off and let it sit for aprrox 2min then check the level.

I have a 1999 isuzu amigo 2.2L are the camshaft bolts one time use only and were can i find new ones nobody has them

Camshaft bolts are not typically torque to yield fasteners one rule of thumb check is to see if the threads are stretched if they are TTY the threaded portion of the bolt will not be a uniform spiral if it is a uniform spiral the fastener has not been used to its tty and is still safe to use or it ios not a tty bolt

Had the rack and pinion replaced on my 2004 toyota sienna van b/c the power steering rack was leaking. Picked up the car and left for a trip. Cruise control and horn not working. I know the horn was...

while replacing a rack on any car with a airbag made into the steering column you have to make sure the steering wheel does not move while changing out the rack.......if it moves buy itself or lets just say someone was to move it for a joke and it gets out of position and after you put everything back together and turn the steering all the way the wires in the spiral cable will stretch and break...i have seen this happen all the time when you are working on the steering system....the spiral cable will turn 2.5 turns in each direction when you are installing a new one and if it is installed .5 to 1 turn out then when you drive the car and turn the wheel lock to lock the wires are going to stretch and break.....i would have to say that whoever installed the rack has caused all of your other problems and if it was the company i work for they would take care of it for you...i hope that this info was helpful and if i can help you in any other way let me know and if you would also let me and fixya know if i was of any help to you and a comment and a comment would be appreciated...thanks and good luck...have a blessed day......

I depress my horn on my 2008 yaris and it stays on intermittenly and stops when it wants to what can i check or what is wrong

Hello. Welcome to FixYa. Please allow us to help...

What you probably have is a bad "spiral cable", or better known as the "clockspring". This is a cable that winds and unwinds as the steering wheel is turned. This cable allows power to be transmitted to the air bag, to deploy it, in the event of a collision. Since the horn button is in front of the air-bag, the circuit that allows the horn to activate is also part of this cable device.

We would suggest having it properly checked by a professional who is very familiar with this device, and, if it is found to be bad, replaced. Non-professional diagnosis and poking about with the spiral cable could lead to an air bag that will not deploy.

Thanks for using FixYa for assistance today.

Gotta drop it down the same hole as the dipstick. Get a funnel or spiral up a piece of paper to make a funnel. Its the little red handle near the back of the motor. Remember to always check trans fluid while car is running

My drivers side air bag deployed and the Nissan Service Manual indicates the Spiral Cable assembly must be replaced with the air bag module. Niether I nor my local dealer can locate any part called the...

What kind of dealer can not locate spiral cable?
The name of that spiral cable is CLOCK SPRING ,
it's under steering wheel , connecting air bag at wheel to main harness.
I would recommend to change the dealer before your air bag shoot you in the face.

How to change the oil pan on my 2000 Ford Contour 4cyl.......I was told at the oil change place that it was all rusted out and leaking and needs to be replaced....How big a job is this???? Can I do this,...

It shouldn't be that big of a deal. If the oil pan is the only part that has oil on it, it is most likely an oil pan gasket or rtv sealant that needs to be replaced. If you have actual holes in the pan then your problem is probably bigger. Depending on how bad the rust is, getting those fasenters out might present a problem so I would try turning a couple before draining all the oil. If the bolts turn then drain the oil from the plug as if you were doing an oil change. There are twelve of these bolts and there is a proper untightening and tightening sequence which is difficult to explain without a diagram but try and work in a spiral pattern from the center. Once it is off make sure you scrape all rtv off and any oil residue otherwise it will leak again. Re-apply rtv or whatever ford recommends and when it is ready, put it back trying to tighten the bolts from the center working your way out in a criss cross spiral pattern. Hope all goes well

Spark plug nut broke off and ceramic came completly out leaving threads and ring stuck in block plugs sets roughly 8 in into head. its is a 98 breeze 2.4 any ideas on getting it out

Yes.....use a good spiral extractor and lots of patience. DO NOT spray penetrating oil into spark plug hole. And don't run the engine to "get it hot" hoping the heat will help loosen it. It will NOT work. A quality reverse spiral extractor and a breaker bar WILL do the trick if patience is used.
