You should google search online as to instructions/how to guides. Type in "laptop hinges repair guide" and you should get good results.
As for buying hinges, I would search on ebay or online for hinges AFTER finding a good guide (the guide should tell you what you need). The replacement hinges should not be too costly assuming you only need to replace those.
This will probably entail taking your laptop case out, so I would recommend checking into dust cleaning from your laptop/risks just incase dust gets inside when you take off the outer case. But a guide should be more useful than my speculations about your problem/need.

Hi, To replace the fan, you have to disassemble the laptop and for that you need to have the laptop repair manual that can be downloaded here. The repair manual contains all the information as well as graphic illustration about disassembling and replacing the fan. Please refer to Page 4-41 for complete details. If you are able to work inside such electronics and have some disassembling experience, you may try to do it yourself. However, if you have no experience, it is strongly recommended that you seek professional help from HP authorized repair/ service professional.

If you have the YLOD you need to fix this you can do so by stopping the heat build up on the chips and by using a good guide. Or you can send it in and get it fixed.
HP make good laptops, remember they use alot of similar components to make their machines work, the ram, processor and drives, are usually manufactured by the same company, or at least very similarly made. The choice really comes down to the motherboard, and the various ports on the laptop, just remember that 1 gig of ram isn't going to see vista really run, so opt for xp if you can, if you get 2 gigs, vista is fine. The choice is yours, but ultimately you need to decide what you'll be doing with it, and base your choice on that. It does seem though that dell has a more solid, reliable architechture than hp. OH NO.................well my friend you just got jipped. but dont worry its o.k. a users guide doesnt matter you will get the feel for the laptop soooner or later or we will help you. for norton you have to go 2 control panel then go to add/remove files....you will find norton and click it and press uninstall. because its worthless with no pin key.... your laptop still has security just not good or trustworthy but your laptop will be safe for another week or 2... go to best buy and buy a norton security package for about $60(dont buy the cheap stuff because it will not work)then once you get that installed you should be ready 2 go without worrying about any more problems for a while
