Question about Vtech 5.8GHz Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System
When I dial a number it sounds like a rotary phone, when the number answers and they are options (press"1" for Susie) it will not dial any number.
Since you neglected to specify the model of your VTech 5.8GHz phone I can only suggest you enter it into the search box here to download a copy of the manual to see how to switch from pulse to tone dialing.

In your phone's menu go to settings, call settings/options. There will be a dialing option. Choose T or Tone not P or Pulse dialing. Depending on your actual phone model there may even be a button on the handset to change this setting as well. Hope this helps and Good Luck!

Your phone is somehow set to pulse dialling and you need to change it to tone. Instructions are given below.
Of course if you can't select menu options this will not work so please explain why the menu options are not available - what happens when you select the menu softkey?
The dial mode is preset to tone. If you do not have touch tone service, you need to change the setting to pulse.
To change the setting:
Press the MENU softkey when the handset is not in use.
Press or to select SETTINGS, then press the SELECT softkey.
Press or to select Dial mode, then press the SELECT softkey.
Press or to choose Tone or Pulse. Press the SET softkey to save, or press the BACK softkey to exit to the previous menu.
