Question about Dictaphone 3750 Desktop Cassette Transcriber / Recorder

Machine will not turn on and voice quality on tapes is not good

Hi, I bought this unit used online and seemed to work fine for a while but have noticed intermittent poor voice quality on tapes, like a wobbly sounding voice and sometimes muffled sounding. I have cleaned the heads with a alcohol swab and this did not improve the problems. I have been told that the door may be adjusted, so how is this done? Also yesterday when I went to turn it on it would not turn on? What could this problem be?

The door cannot be adjusted, but the head alignment can be. If you open the cassette door, you should be able to remove the door cover. Then install your tape and put into play. You will need a small phillips screwdriver (like you would use on eyeglasses). If you look down towards the front of the cassette compartment, there is a small cutout, and below that the adjustment screw. Turn it very little at a time, first clockwise. If it gets worse go the other way. If it gets better, keep turning slowly until the sound is the best quality. As far as not turning on, check where the power pack plugs into the back of the machine. I have seen where either the pin in the receptacle is broken, or if you remove the bottom cover, the solder points are broken loose and need to be resoldered. (I was a tech for them for 20 years).

Audio noise on some, but not all VHS tapes

Hi,

First thing i would say is go for the HI-FI audio would go in and out and pop etc. Adjusting the tracking would bring in the audio, but sometimes the video would get fuzzy. Get the picture right and the audio goes out. Switch to Linear (mono on some VCRs) and the audio should be fine.

Finally if this doesn't solve your problem then i would suggest you to give it to repair and they will fix it.

Goodluck..

Have changed the black ink in the printer as it was displaying error code 4. It is now displaying error code 5! What does this mean. What should I do?

Hi there,
Error E5.
Cause : The FINE Cartridge may not be installed properly or the Cartridge may not be the compatible with the machine.
Action : Install the appropriate FINE Cartridge. If the lines are misaligned or the resulting output is not satisfactory, carry out the FINE cartridge Alignment.

Replacing A FINE Cartridge.
When replacing a FINE Cartridge, check the model number very carefully.

The machine will not print properly if the wrong FINE Cartridge is used, or installed incorrectly.

Black : PG-40 Black
Color : CL-41 Color

The FINE Cartridge PG-50 Black (High-Yield) and CL-51 Color (High Yield) are also compatible with this machine.

Replacing A FINE Cartridge
When a FINE Cartridge runs out of ink, replace it using the following steps.
1) Ensure that the machine is turned ON, and then open the Scanning Unit. The FINE Cartridge Holder moves to the left.
Pull the Scanning Unit Support down into place.

2) Remove the empty FINE Cartridge.
a) Push the FINE Cartridge carefully to avoid staining your clothes or the surrounding work area.
b) Remove the FINE Cartridge.
Important : * Handle FINE Cartridges carefullu to avoid staining your clothes or the surrounding work area.
*Discard empty FINE Cartridges according to local laws and disposal regulations.
Caution : Do not touch the transparent film, film cable, ink absorber (sponge part) or any metal parts.

3) Prepare a replacement FINE Cartridge.
Unpack a new FINE Cartridge and remove the Protective Tape.
Important : * Do not reattach the Protective Tape once you have removed it,
* Handle the removed Protective Tape carefully to avoid getting your hands dirty or staining the surrounding work area once you have removed it.
* Once the Protective Tape is removed, do not touch the gold terminals of the FINE Cartridge or its nozzles. The machine may not print out properly if you touch the terminals.

4) Insert the new FINE Cartridge.
Black FINE Cartridge should be installed into the left holder and Color FINE Cartridge should go into the right holder.
a) Insert a new FINE Cartridge on a slight tilt.
b) Push the FINE Cartridge up until it clicks into place.

5) Close the Scanning Unit.
Lift the Scanning Unit slightly and put the Scanning Unit Support back to its original position,
Then close the Scanning Unit.
The FINE Cartridge Holder moves to the right.
Note : IF the straight line is misaligned or the FINE Cartridge position is misaligned, align the FINE Cartridge position.
Important :
* To maintain optimal print quality, we recommend that you use Canon brand FINE Cartridge. Replenishing ink only is also not recommended.
* Replace the FINE Cartridge runs out of ink, replace the FINE Cartridge with a new one immediately. If you replace it with the FINE Cartridge that has previously been removed, the machine may not print properly due to clogged FINE Cartridge nozzles. Furthermore, the Low Ink Warning dialog box which advices when to exchange the FINE Cartridge will be inaccurate.
* To maintain optimal print quality, use up all the ink in the FINE Cartridge within six months of its first use. (We recommend that you note the date that the FINE Cartridge was installed in the machine.)
* Color ink consumption may occur even when black-and- white or gray-scale printing specified.
Color ink is consumed during Cartridge cleaning, which is necessary to maintain the machine's capabilities.

Aligning The FINE Cartridge
If ruled lines are misaligned or a printout is unsatisfactory, FINE Cartridge Alignment is required,

* Aligning the FINE Cartridge
1) Press [Maintainance] repeatedly until <P> appears.

2) Press [Black] or [Color].
The machine prints the head alignment sheet.

3) Beginning from Column A on the printout, enter checkmarks in the patterns that have the most solid image.

4) Load the checked sheet on the Platen Glass.
When loading the checked sheet, place the front side down, and align the upper left corner of the sheet with the alignment mark on the lower right corner of the Platen Glass.

5) Press [Maintainance] repeatedly until <U> appears.

6) Press [Black] or [Color].
The machine scans the pattern and aligns the FINE Cartridge automatically.
Note : If you select <L> in step 1, the machine prints the current FINE Cartridge Alignment setting.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.
Have a good day.

20 year old Dictaphone Voice Processor Microcassette not working

Not sure if you're still having problems with this portable, but the first thing I would check is to make sure that you've put the batteries UNDER the battery clip in the battery compartment. Does the machine just make a 'beeping' noise when it tries to play, rew, or FF?

The tape might be getting old, replace it and see what happens.  If it is still acting up, It might be he is not recording properly or the recorder is bad.  Try talking directly into the mic and see if it is better.  If it is, he needs to talk louder or needs to hold it close.

MARANTZ PMD 101 PROBLEMS, COUNTER AND REWIND

Get the belts changed, and check a clutch inside the mech which drives the auto-stop mechanism.

It works in a way that it normally holds the auto-stop off if the spools are rotating, but when it wears, there is no srive through it to hold the auto-stop off, so the auto-stops stops, if you see what I mean.

Any good audio tech should be able to do this, if the machine otherwise works OK, it is worth doing because these are very nice and usually reliable machines.

For musical work though, the CP series are usually better, as they provide 3-heads and off-tape monitoring, with better quality and the facility to set tape bias to suit high-grade tapes.

DRC 8335 Playing Back VCR Recordings in a Fast Forward State

I bought mine yesterday and am having the same issues. No solution listed in the user manual to fix this and I have a rather extensive VHS tape library that I was hoping to move to DVD using this unit. Unable to watch any VHS tapes taped on my Panasonic VCR and it seems as if the tape is slipping. Tracking buttons don't fix anything. I found a blank spot at the end of the tape and taped something and it comes out fine. Could this have something to do with it being a 6 head VCR? Tapes are in SLP mode.

On some of the DVD/VCR combo units, the VCR output is only available through the RF jack (channel 3), standard video1.gif (yellow) RCA jack and S-VIDEO jack. If you are using the Component jacks, the DVD side will work but the VCR will not. This is because the quality of video recorded on VHS tapes is so much lower than component quality video.
Thank you for rating this solution.
