There are several high voltage capacitors in this circuit. One or more is beginning to fail. These caps need to be tested with an ESR meter to determine their status. Take the monitor to a pro or visit my site WWW.micromendllc.com
It sounds like the Monitor adjustment button is engaged or hanging is there anything leaning against the buttons say the back of the keyboard or something may have bumped it hard and caused it to sit funny. Esp. since you said you hit the exit. That display is for adjusting the monitor for size of image brightness contrast screen position. You may have the screen size set too large to get to the whole menu. Check the button issue first, someone once had some pop spray the screen and the dried sticky coke cause the button to stay partially down. Please unplug the monitor if you use any liquid to clean the button to avoid a short or shock. randy320sgi
swede32169, Try the buttons on the front or side of the monitor to get to the menu using the + or - to maneuverThu the menu items until you see the "sun" that's for brightness the half filled circle is for contrast that helps too. randy320sgi
