My panasonic dmr-e75v dvd/vhs player/recorder is suddenly baffling me: although I CAN playback a DVD (I never handle VHS anymore) when I get the WHO/INPUT right, and I can see all the sessions of recordings on one screen as usual, if I close that, I get the blue screen saying something like "no input" or the like... so I cannot RECORD ANYTHING. I can browse thru channels via my cable box remote as usual, but I can't seem to find the setting that allows both that and recording.
This is my setup: Wall to cable box to DVD/VHS TV
I have a video/audio 3 pronged connection somewhere, but I'm not there right now and can't rememember. I made NO CHANGE to my connections, though, between it's working normally and now it's failure.

I have a Toshiba Equium A100-147 Laptop. The User Manual states that the DVD drive is only suitable for 8X speed DVD discs. I understand that the newer 16X speed DVD -R / +R disks should not be used with the DVD drive without software update. Could you please advise where I can obtain the appropriate software upgrade. Dvd drive is given as HI-DT-DVDRAM GMA-4082N.
