I have a akasa internal 3.5 card reader, 4 slots and a usb port, no fans. Installed ok and worked one time then dissappeared in my computer and device manager.

Looking at the plug it had a wire in where a dummy connector on the motherboard connects. Took the cover off the card reader and looked at the other end and on that connectot no wire. Reversed the lead and all up and running. No Quality assurance any more!

Do not know how to insurt picture card from my cameria

first of all, It MUST be an MMC or SD card, or you will have to purchase a USB multi flash card reader to get your picks off.

The MMC/SD slot is located on the right edge above the 2 audio jacks.

The flash media is inserted carefully, it will only fit one way, so if it seems to not 'seat' properly, then remove it and flip-it over and try it again.

Acer aspire t 180 cant get pc to recognize digital camera photo memory card

Has the computer recognized the memory card in the past? If so, try download and reinstalling the memory card driver.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Acer Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Card Reader drivers.

If after installing the drivers the reader still does not work, you can purchase a multi format card reader that will plug into you usb port from Tiger Direct for less than $15. at

http://www.tigerdirect.com

When the site comes up just put in the search at the top "SD Card Reader or XD Card Reader" depending you your type and press GO. You can sort the returned results by Price Low to High.

Do you have a USB Cable that came with the camera that you can plug into one of the usb ports on the computer? If so, try that. It's another way of getting pictures off the camera. Plug the cable on the camera and into the computer then turn the camera on. The computer will recognize the camera and install the drivers. You can navigate through the camera folders just like you do any other device to find the pictures.

My toshiba satellite a100 pro will not recognise my sd card any more the does not even come on. it used to work ? any ideas?

if the drivers for the card reader were recently updated they might not be capatible with the card reader try rolling the drivers back to previous time and clean the reader with canned air if it does not work the problem is internal and might have to be replaced if it is not proprietary (attached to the motherboard)

Memory Card Readers Wont Function

Unless it is under warranty your best/cheapest bet is to get an external USB card reader. I recently purchased an off-the-wall USB card reader from Radio Shack for $12.99. It serves its purpose and I can take it with me anywhere.

Hope this helps at least some. Good luck!

Internal USB connector

You did not have to unplug the onboard USB ports.
Your OS should see the card reader and set it up, unless you are using Win98 or WinME. I would plug the onboard USB ports, then restart with the new internal card installed.

HP pavillion a800n pc wont' boot up..I get nothing...

After much trial-and-error, I finally figured out the solution for this common issue with certain HP Pavillion models. It turns out to be a design flaw with the front-panel memory card reader. Somehow the card reader's firmware gets scrambled, and it prevents the computer from booting. You can test this on your machine by temporarily disconnecting the card reader cable at the motherboard header. Voila - I'll bet you $1 that your computer will now boot!

The solution is buried deep inside this HP tech support document. The card reader firmware needs to be reset.

Here\'s how to fix it once and for all:

1) With the computer power unplugged (duh), open up the case & disconnect the card reader cable at the card reader itself - NOT the end that connects to the motherboard header. Make sure the cable end is not touching any metal components before proceeding to step 2 (another duh).

2) With the cable still disconnected, fire up the computer. The tech support doc says to let it boot into Windows and stay there for about 5 minutes.

3) Shut the computer down and reconnect the cable to the card reader.

4) Turn your computer back on - your memory card reader will work and, most importantly, the computer will no longer hang at POST!

I suspect that when you fire up the computer without the cable connected, the card reader is designed to reset its firmware by grounding out through the case - sort of like a CMOS Reset jumper on a motherboard.

I hope this solution is helpful to others.

best,
JohnB
