Jeff--I don't have another speaker to test. The speaker is plugged in to the computer with a green connection.I checked the control panel sound devices and then the settings. The settings are not in mute or disabled. Thanks for your advice--I may be getting closer to finding the answer.

OK, this might sound silly...are these speakers plugged into the correct port on the PC? Most PC's have colored ports, so you would be looking for green ones in that case.

Hi Bob,

You may try to check if the issue is with the speaker. you may try connecting another speaker available. If it works fine then it could be a problem with the speaker itself. Speakers are commonly connected to a green port at the back of you computer tower.

You need to check also the sound devices under control panel the settings of the sound card driver installed in your computer. You need to check also if the control settings are in mute or disabled.

keep me posted.

regards,

jeff

    Bob,

If that's the case, try connecting your speakers to a laptop or to any other system and check if that would work. if not, then it is a problem with the speakers.

    regards,

    Jeff

My speakers don't want to turn on

Hi ,
Sometimes , new speakers just don't work from the beginning and you need to bring them back to the retail shop under waranty .
Before doing that , check your soundcard by connecting it's output to another sound set , like your hifi or another speakers set . If this doesn't work , you could be just facing a driver issue that can easily be solved by downloading and installing the correct driver from the manufacturer's site .

My left speaker is not working and it isn't the cable connection. It has been checked and the plug is in all-the-way.

You could just have a loose wire inside the speaker but sometimes one speaker will just go to speaker heaven. Sorry I can't give a better answer and I don't know that brand so I don't know if you can open up the speaker easily to see if there is a loose connection. Now, sometimes the plugs can just wear out too which can be replaced if it is a great set of speakers but again, back to the lack of knowledge about that brand and how hard it is to work on.

Even though the speakers are plugged in,turned on, and at full volume, there is no sound. The speaker itself still works because when I plugged in my ipod, sound still played. The speakers only don't...

First we need to check if we rightfully plug the speaker in it,s rightful socket at the back of your computer. There are three sockets one is for the mic the other one is for the speaker and lastly the input socket. the green socket is it's rightful place. So now we can proceed, make sure that you have a proper sound driver for your computer. If it is still not installed, we really cannot hear anything from the speaker that we just plug in. Try to re-install your motherboard drivers, especially the sound driver for *********** board. If you don't have an installation disk, then try to buy or acquire a driver magician installation disk it is available at any software stores. After you installed driver magician, it will automatically detect any missing drivers that your motherboard needs. Try downloading each one by pressing download and driver magician will automatically search the web and download it for you. All you got to do is install them. I respectfully hope that this would solve your problems. Have a nice day friend.

Try to disconnect the input connector of your speaker and touch the input jack of the unit if you hear a hazing sound it means your speakers are working properly but if you don't hear any sound your speakers are bad. Open the speaker unit and check the amplifier section of your unit. If you don't see any burned electronic component inside. Check the wiring of your unit.
To check if the audio of your computer is working. Plug in the input a headset if you hear a sound while you playing a music in your computer it means the audio of your computer is working good.

Dear Sir/Mdm, I just reformatted my computer and since then, I have no been able to get my speakers (altec lansing v1520) to work. May i please know what driver(s) I need to download to get it to work....

You don't need any drivers to make the speakers work what you need is the audio chip drivers for your motherboard ( the model of which you have not mentioned ).At the bottom right hand side of your desktop next to the clock do you see a icon of a speaker ?. If you don't , your sound driver has not been loaded. If you have the motherboard utility disc the drivers will be on it. If you don't ,you can go to the motherboard website on the net and type the model number and download all the drivers necessary to run the PC.
Just remember after loading the drivers remember to restart the PC to make the application run.

I've never worked on this model so I can't give you a definite part value or location, but you'll probably find a bad filter capacitor (or possibly more than one) in the power supply. The power supply converts the AC power line voltage to the DC (direct current) needed by the electronics. If the filter capcitors don't work, the result isn't smooth and steady, and the result is an annoying hum. You're probably hearing this.

It's possible to replace the bad capacitors, but it's not always easy. The people who make computer speakers don't often design them to be serviced, and sometimes it's a challenge getting into the power supply. But if you or someone you know with some electronic soldering skills is willing to give it a try, you might be able to bring these speakers back to normal. Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!

It must be a power adapator problem. Most of the power adaptors do not have a indicator to show you if its working. Is the power indicator on the subwoofer module working if not I am right about the adaptor.

The speakers don't work at all. The blue light goes on fine, but there's no sound. They used to work fine with my iPod and iPhone, but not anymore.

Hi, Have they been turned off?
These speakers have a habit of setting their volume level to zero if the power is removed.
At the bottom of the right-hand speaker you should see some tiny volume up/down buttons.
Try pressing the up and see what happens.
