You have to check You have to check the battery and charger for voltage with a volt meter. The charger should be putting out at least 14.5 volts and the battery should read 14 volts. There are metal contacks on the battery and on the charger inside the hole where you insert the battery.

There are black access panels on each side if the drill toward the rear. Remove the screw that holds them in, and remove the panel. This will expose the bruch holder, take a small screw driver and carefully remove the old brushes and replace them. Replace the panels.

Check the speed selector switch on top of the drill... it can get dirty and not fully engage. Cycle the swatch a few times back and forth and stop in your desired indent (1, 2, 3) when you feel a real positive click.

Hi I have a makita drill 18 volt. I lent the drill to a friend and got it back not working properly. When I squeeze the button, the motor is running but the head of the drill is not turning and doesn't...

Check the speed control. There is a speed control usually from hi to low... sounds like it's in between speeds... try adjusting it back and forth...
It should go back into one gear and work fine.

If you noticed this sound the first time you tried the drill, it is noise of the armature brake.  This noise is normal and not a problem at all.  Michael Mittelsdorf

You should try to charge the battery again. Or you can try to fix it or then its time to get a new battery.
