Question about JVC DR-MX1 DVD Recorder/VCR

Open Question

Subtitle recording My wife & I are both deaf. We want to record programs by timer but with subtitles. Although we can do a live recording with subtitles, when we try to set it up to come on while we are out there appears to be no way to get the subtitles to record. My manual is labelled DR-MX10SEK but this does not appear anywhere on the JVC website and is not recognised. i presume that JVC DR-MX1 DVD Recorder is the correct model. Robin Gain (aged 75)

It takes just 2 minutes to put the subtitle in divx and is not fixed, only appears when tight subtitle on the remote control. I have a link to a tutorial but it is in Portuguese. this happened to mine - could be that it is getting too hot (mine is in a cabinet) - turning the machine off (by unplugging the plug, not putting on standby) and letting it cool down seems to work.

However, the dvd has now stopped working (not related to the above problem) - hence me looking

Subtitles always on

Hi - welcome to FixYa,

There are 2 methods for changing the subtitle settings on your DVD player.

Method 1.
To turn off the subtitles on your DVD player during playback:

1. Press the "SUBTITLE" button on your remote control
The subtitle button is just below the "0" (zero) numerical key on the remote control. It is marked "SUBTITLE" above the button and the button has "ABC" written inside a white rectangle on it.
2. Use the left "<" and right ">" arrow keys to change the subtitle setting
Each time you press an arrow key the subtitle language will change and eventually the language will read "OFF". The subtitles are now switched off during playback.

Method 2.
To turn disc subtitles off from the main menu:

1. Press the "MENU/LIST" button on your remote control (directly below "STOP")
The main menu will now appear
2. Press the down arrow key on your remote once to highlight "A" in the left hand column of the main menu
3. Press the right arrow key on your remote once to move to the right-hand column of the menu
4. Press the down arrow twice to highlight "Disc Subtitle"
5. Use the left and right arrow keys to change the subtitle options until your required choice is displayed
6. Once set, press the "MENU/LIST" button again to exit the menu.

This should solve your problem, but if you need any further assistance, please post back.

Regards,
BElectric

Stop Substitles on a LG RHT497H 160G dvd recorder?

I have the LG DVD recorder DRT389H which has the same problem. You can't switch off the subtitles during timer recording from the Electronic Programme Guide. The only way I could stop this was to go to the main set-up menu then select the A icon. Select DTV Subtitle and choose a language that the TV programme isn't broadcast in. I chose Gaelic. The only disadvantage is that this stops any subtitles being recorded so you can't access them later.

I would like to be able to record TV shows WITH subtitles/closed captions. I have a Hisense HD LCD TV with built in HD tuner. I would like to be able to record onto a DVD/VCR. I'm getting conflicting...

Hey, I have a deaf brother with this issue. What I done was route the AV output of the TV to the AV input of the recorder. Set your recorders source to AV1 (or whichever you use) and set your TV to the program you want to record, also turn subtitles on. Because you wont have your TV set to the input your DVD recorder is on, you won't be able to see the DVD recorders output, but thats fine. Just press record on the unit - you have to leave the TV on the channel it's recording. Now you should be recording TV with subtitles with no problem :D

We have a RH397D digital recorder. We cannot get the subtitles to stay off. Every time we change channel the subtitles come back up again. Where do we go on the menu to keep the subtitles turned off?

Easy Menu
Setup
A – DTV Closed Caption - OFF (Make sure it is turned off) I am not sure what activates this to ENGLISH but it can be switched off.
