RCA Universal Remote Control #451--Closed Captioning Will Not Turn Off

My elderly mother just purchased a RCA Universal Remote Control (#451). She called me and said the closed captioning words are now running along the bottom of her screen and she can't turn them off. I asked her to look for a button that says 'cc' for closed captioning. She said there is no such button. She read the menu items to me over the phone to choose from and I just can't figure it out with what she is telling me. Please help. Thanks so much.

I have the same problem.  I have use my RCA Universal Remote with my Sansui TV for the last couple of years and everything was fine.  I think my 3 year old pushed some random buttons to turn on the closed captioning but now I can't figure out how to turn them off.  There is a menu button on my remote but it does nothing, its like its just a dummy button.  This is driving me crazy!  I try to look on the bright side and hope it will help to teach him to read.

After visiting my mother today and working with the remote, I fixed the problem. First of all, neither the mute button or menu button would work. I then reprogamed her TV to the remote with the appropriate code found on the sheet that came with the remote. The mute and menu buttons then worked. When I pulled up the menu, it was in French. I believe it was the last menu selection that i chose and right arrowed over. I received a separate screen. On the botton it said, English, Spanish, French. It was hard to see, but French seemed to be highlighted. I then left arrowed over to English. I let the menu go off on it's own rather than touch another button. When I pulled the menu back up it was in English. One of the selections was Caption. I right arrowed over and made sure it said no (instead of yes). I then waited. The menu did not appear to be going off so I just turned off the TV. When I turned the TV back on, the captioning on the screen was gone. Yea---success! My mother was ready to buy a new TV set over this. We took the batteries out of the remote and she will be buying a different remote soon.

I can't figure out how to turn the cc off either. I went to menu and then audio then captions and off but they still won't go off. The captions are only on when I am watching HD channels. Anyone know why?

How do I get closed captioning on my LC320EM2 with an RCA universal remote?

With a universal remote control; you can't. If you wish to buy its original remote control, contact the authorized service centre, or authorized dealer to your device brand. They can either give you a genuine remote control to your device, or can direct you, from where can you purchase a suitable one.

Need Closed Captioning

If you have the original remote control, there will be a button marked "CC", and pressing it once, the closed caption funciton will turn OFF, and for an other press, it will re-appear. Now, here you are using a universal remote control. So it will be difficult to make closed caption. Try to enter its function menu by using present remote control, where you can make this funicion OFF, if you could enter into it.

Toshiba 27AF44 closed caption

It will be so related to universal remote controls. All buttons won't work with what it should be meant for. The only thing we can try, is to try an other setup code. Try that.

You must have its original remote control, which will have 'CC; button on it. you have to press this button once to cancel the Closed Caption option. If you can acccess the Menu of the tV by your present universal remote contro,; get into TVs Menu option, surf through, come to closed capation adjust window, and cancell [OFF] the closed caption option.

I can't turn the closed captioning OFF on my insgnia flat screen tv model NS-L CD37. i have a universal rca remote & the closed captioning won't go away - HELP !

The problem is that the universal remote is not sending the correct IR signal to your units IR receiver, regaurdless whether or not you turned the captions on with the universal, it is unable to send the signal to turn them off, if you have a menu button on your unit you could try accessing the closed caption option that way, alternatively you can do a system reset, if you can access that menu option, you may need to do a tv retune to get your stations, but the closed captioning should be off. I hope this helps. Good luck.

I have a panasonic TV. direct tv remote for a . while programming the timer, somehow closed captioning got turned on & i after hours of trying to get it turned off, NO LUCK. it's driving me insane!!...

I could do better with a picture of the remote. Closed captioning is usually a multi-press button, that is each press takes you through each of the four types of closed captioning and then off.
You can enable closed captioning on a DVD Recorder, it looks like the TV, but its only on the picture from the DVD Recorder.
If you have a PVR, you could have closed captioning on on that device.
Try tuning off everything else to make sure it IS the TV.
Turn on the menu and find the closed captioning settings and set to OFF.
Press the close captioning button on the remote (If there is one) and press CC repeatedly until it says OFF.
Try and control close captioning, timer and menus with the ORIGINAL remote and not a programmable one.
Programmable remotes are not always completely compatible.

I cannot imagine the original person still has this issue but if you turn off the cable box, assuming it is an HD PVR, you then hit the menu key and you can go into a whole bunch of options including cc
