Question about Verbatim STORE-N-GO (95312) 8 GB Hard Drive

Changing partition on Verbatim 8Gb drive

Have an 8Gb, Verbatim, USB drive which is partitioned into a "public" and "private" (password protected) section, at roughly 4Gb each. One section is now full, whereas the other has tons of space.
How do I shift -if that is the right word- the partition to make more room for the part that is now full?

this does not appear to be a solution, as I can't even get to the instructions, where I originally allocated the space to each of the two sections.
if I had "how to", step by step, instructions for that particular device, it may work.

    Problem is solved!

When you open the partitioned drive, click on the "V-safe" icon. A window will pop up with a choice of languages (which is unimportant).

Click OK. A new window will pop up which prompts you for your password. In this window is also a small button for "settings" click on this and proceed with what you want to do.

All really quite simple, if you don't try to do things from the "public" part of the partition.

There is no way you can extend the first partition to the second one to make space. The only option is to take back up of data from partition 1 and then recreate the partition again. This is the only resolution.

Thanks

Hi,

The simplest would be to use a third party software such as Partition Magic. The long way would be to copy to your hard drive all the contents of the of the flashdisk, repartition to the sizes that you want and re-format (FAT32). Thereatfer, reload back the files.

Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi,

You need to remove ALL partitions, define ONE partition, and then reformat as FAT32 for multiple system compatibility. there's a partition size limit for FAT3.If you hit the limit, then make TWO equal size partitions

Have 8 G Verbatim....says I only have 50MB left, but I can't find any files left to delete. How do I recover the 8G ? Thanks

Everyone above is wrong. I too had this problem. You run the V-safe software to access the "private zone". the software is downloadable from the support website. There are several versions and you have to go through and find the correct version by trial and error. If none of them work then you have a mini paperweight. I work on computers for a living and I have tried every professional tool out there and none of them will work. No the protected partition can not eve be recognized by a Linux boot disk.If you are willing to pay the shipping Verbatim will replace it.

Formatting just deletes all information that is on a disk, so if you format a drive with two partitions on it, you're only formatting the partitions, not deleting the partition

so what you want to do is delete the partition between the two drives.. or at least make one of the partitions bigger.

in Windows 7
if you go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management > right click the partition you want to make SMALLER and click Shrink Volume, then right click the partition you want to make BIGGER and then click extend volume

you have now created a smaller partition and a larger partition

in Windows XP you're gonna need a program to do this.. if you google partitioning programs you'll find heaps, a good one that was very common was called "Partition Magic"

hope this helps

How to re-join two partitions on one external hard drive?

You cannot. You delete both and then make one partition.
There is software available that will let you resize a partition. (E.g. Acronis Disk Director). In this case you delete one partition and the resize the remaining partition to use the space created.
Most important: Back your data up to another hard disk before making any changes to your disk.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

You will have to download the v-safe software again for your flashdrive from manufacturer website. Then you can change the size of the secure area or remove it completely. http://www.verbatim.com/support/support.cfm?open=Manuals
You should be able to find the software here in the downloads section.

Newly bought 2GB DataTraveler only show 1GB capacity

Did you read the emanual that is on the Kindston's website for the DataTraveller? When you use the password protection program, it logs you IN to another partition you created when you started it the first time. It logs you off of the  normal drive partition and in to the password protected partition.

Both exist on the same pen drive but can not be accessed at the same time. Try logging off using the same program or if there's such a logoff shortcut anywhere on the pendrive, yo should be back to the normal 2GB partition.
