    There has been several discussions about this problem with no solution. When the speaker is turned on, a green light comes on and a muffled pop like I'm going to get sound. The hook up is OK with the green wiring in place into the computer. I have no extra speaker to test. I have no laptop to test. I have gone to my control panel and walked through different procedures that have done nothing, I have been told that the problem is not in my speakers, but in my computer. I'm getting more and more videos that I need to hear, so I'm paying for your help.Can you give me a definite way to get this problem corrected?

  • bob6330 Oct 12, 2008

    I don't know how to reinstall the sound driversHow is this done?

  • bob6330 Oct 13, 2008

    I tried the steps to do a system restore and went back a week, and it didn't work. I'm going to try going back 2 weeks and see.

  • bob6330 Oct 13, 2008

    To sammy expert--I have a Dell 4300 computer that's about 6 years old. I assume that 4300 is the model number. When I turn the speaker on and off I hear a muffled popping sound when I turn it on--like I'm going to be able to hear something I play--but still no sound when I turn on several different videos.

  • bob6330 Oct 14, 2008

    I still have not found an answer to my speakers problem. I have tried everything that has be suggested to me by your experts. Sammy the expert has offered some possible solutions and I have tried them, at least two times--but they have not worked. These suggestions include procedures to download an audio driver and calling for me to uninstall the driver --I received a warning that "you are about to uninstall this device from your system"--that worried me so I didn't do it. The other procedure was to restore my computer to an earlier time when my speakers were working.--first I tried 2 weeks and that didn't work--so I tried 3 weeks which should have been way before my speakers failed and that didn't work.

    I'm getting a lot of videos that I really want to hear. I have tried running CD's thinking that my Windows system was at fault. That didn't work either--no sound. What else can I do? I have paid for your service for your experts to reply by e-mail. Are there other experts in your group who can help me? Thanks.

  • bob6330 Oct 15, 2008

    Sammy expert has suggested I download all 9 of the audio drivers. I have attempted to do it, but some have led me into areas that I don't understand. I thought this would be a relatively easy thing to do--restore the sound to my speakers. Again, when I turn them on, the green light comes on and there is a popping sound--the hook up is green to green.The volume level is turned up --I haven't checked any mute button. I've spent several hours going through all the many procedures suggested to me by your experts.Is there some simple thing I can do?This seems like such a common problem--how have others fixed it? I've also gone through all the troubleshooting advice from Windows XP

  • bob6330 Oct 16, 2008

    I can't believe it! I suddenly am getting sound from my speakers as of today Oct. 16. It must be some kind of delayed reaction to the procedures your people have been sending for me to do.Thanks to Jeff and lately a big thanks to Sammy the Expert who has sent me several interesting and challenging things to do to correct the situation.

Make sure that you have connected the jack to the right port and the mute is off

    If both are fine, also monitor that whether you are getting windos sounds or not(While turning on and off).
    If not you will should try to reinstall the sound drivers.

  • Sameer Kashyap Oct 12, 2008

    Could you give me the make and mode number of your computer, so that i can give you the instructions to download and install the drivers.

  • Sameer Kashyap Oct 12, 2008

    Also try this

    Click the + sign next to SOUND VIDEO & GAME CONTROLLERS
    If you have the SoundMax Integrated audio Right click on it and click on update driver, making sure that you are connected to the internet.

    If that does not work Right click the SoundMax Integrated audio and click uninstall and restart the computer

    Also tell me when was the last time it was working fine on the computer.

  • Sameer Kashyap Oct 12, 2008

    If you think that it was working fine on the same computer recently, you can also try system restore. System restore is a utility which takes your system back to a previous date, and starts working as it was working before.

    /* Style Definitions */
    {mso-style-name:"Table Normal";
    mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt;
    font-family:"Times New Roman";

    After you've decided to use System Restore to
    revert your system to a previous state, start the System Restore Wizard and
    follow the prompts. To use the System Restore Wizard, make sure you're logged
    on as an administrator, and then follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, point to All
    , point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and
    then click System Restore.

    2. On the Welcome screen, click Restore my
    computer to an earlier time
    , and then click Next.

    3. On the Select a Restore Point page,
    select the date from the calendar that shows the point you'd like to restore
    to, as shown below, and then click Next.

    Note: - ****Select a date when everything was
    working fine****

    4. On the Confirm Restore Point Selection
    page, verify that the correct restore point is chosen, and then close any open

    5. Click Next if you are ready to
    proceed or click Back to change the restore point.

    6. The computer will shut down automatically
    and reboot. On reboot, you'll see the Restoration Complete page, and
    then click OK.

    You may always undo the System Restore OR
    choose another restore point after checking your system. To do the same just
    open System Restore and make the appropriate choice, you'll have an additional
    task; Undo my last restoration, on the System Restore Welcome page.

    Caution: - Whenever you do a system restore remember that you'll
    have to reinstall any programs that were installed after the restore point

    All the Drivers for your computer are given here you may download the one from the audio. You need to check and see which one you need to download as there are 9 of them under the audio section.

    Most probably it should be Creative Labs if not than it might be Altech Lancing.

    If you are not sure than you may try them one by one.

    All the Best

  • Sameer Kashyap Oct 16, 2008

    Could you just try these speakers with any other computer, just to be 100% sure that they are working fine.

Harman kardon go and play don't have video out port

If I understand you correctly the Harman Kardon does not supply the output video and usb ports. Since this is a go and play they pobably felt it was not needed. to impliment these changes would require a complete design change.

Sound sticks II

My problem is fixed now. I plugged the speakers into the earphone socket. There was no immediate effect just silence. I twiddled the control on the bass unit, played with the volume controls on the sticks. Then I realised the sound was back with the external speakers not the internal ones. It was as though the Harman Kardon system was re-booting itself. Very weird.
