Card readers are all plug and play on Windows XP and Vista, and they do not need any driver software installation.

Just plug in the SD reader into USB and insert card into the card reader.

Ensure that the card is well pushed inside the reader slot, and that is inserted in the right way.

SD card reader not recognizing card

the original file (apparently version 2.0) is here:
http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:2288as3q0skJ:www.asus.it/support/download/selectftp.aspx%3Fl1_id%3D3%26l2_id%3D45%26l3_id%3D0%26m_id%3D1%26f_name%3DCardReader_050118.zip~zaqwedc+CardReader_050118.zip&hl=en

the updated driver (version 2.3) is located here:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=V6V&SLanguage=de-de
scroll down to where you see RICOH card reader driver

or more specifically this link here:
http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/V6V/CardReader_XP_2K_050808.zip

even though the site is primarily in german, all the component names are in english, go figure. So it would seem that the asus comp manufacturer are a little more forthcoming than dell in this particular instance. for example, nowhere on my component sheet does it say that RICOH is the manufacturer for the card reader, that's something i got from you guys on the forums

anyway, after installing this driver and rebooting my comp, card reader immediately recognized both MMC and SD media. unfortunately, it was only able to access the mmc card, and i'll be shipping my comp off to dell for whatever motherboard replacement they're willing to give me (which i don't mind, so long as it works when it comes back to me) but i thought these links might be helpful for others who are having the same problem.

I have lumix dmc-lz7. Tonight I put a 2 gig sd card into my built in card reader , Dell pc and it didn't work and did not even show the drive on computer. Then, to check it out, I connected camera to usb...

maybe the card reader is not SD/SD HC compatible, the same problem occurs wiith the Memory Stick Pro/Duo of sizes 2GB or above in my Desktop Computer (Compaq) and not in my Notebook (Compaq) the card reader and the machine are newest and are compatible
