You may want to try to re-install window but use whats called a non desturctive install, when you put the disk in and asks if you want to format the drive or leave the file system intact ......leave the file system intact this should keep all you data however you will need to re-install any programs you have put on the computer other than a standard install of windows......
It would appear that the boot loader (mbr) has become corrupted as you said you tried all the options in the safe boot menu............let me know how you get on

ok when you see to boot from the ATAPI CD ROM press any button that should then boot from the cd rom letting you re-install windows but remember not to format teh drive but leave the file system intact,...this will just install windows and keep your files.

Hi, my asus f3sc display card crashed due to the fan problme i guess. When i was working, the screen suddenly went black, and it halted. Then i tried to start again. It's starting, but nothing comes on...

if the card crashed then the whole computer would crash, also if the graphics card has died the computer wouldn't boot into windows because it wouldn't pass the POST (Checks if RAM/Graphics card {as well as some other things} are working correctly before booting into windows)

sadly there is no way of replacing a dead graphics card in a notebook without a massive chance of destroying your motherboard, i'd recommend contacting the manufacter and find out if you are still inside warrenty to get a replacement.

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

hope this helps

If you want a copy of the CDs contact Asus by clicking here and ask if they can sell you a replacement cd for your model.

Instead of getting a replacement CD you can download and run the drivers from Asus download page here:

Video controller problem PLEASE HELP !!!

Hi bullterrier0,
The Asus P4S8X-MX uses an onboard video controller, (SiS Real 256E graphics card).
There is an order of sequences that must be followed when adding another video card on to the motherboard. If these are not followed your new card will not function correctly. Shut down the system. Unplug the power cord from the PC. Open your case.
Please remove any graphics cards you may have added into the system, (For now). Once removed leave your case open & plug the power cord back into the PC. Press the start button. Start pressing the Delete key every two seconds as the PC starts up.
The bios main menu will load. Instruction on how to move about within the bios is listed at the bottom of the menu. You will need the P4S8X-MX manual. (If you no longer have the manual you can download it from Asus by clicking on this link:
http://support.asus.com.tw/download/download.aspx?modelname=P4S8X-MX&SLanguage=en-us
Click the plus sign next to; Manual. Find the English manual.
Create a folder on you're desktop & name it Manual. Download the manual. Save the manual into the folder. The manual will need Adobe pdf reader to be viewed. If you do not have Adobe you can download it for free from this link:
http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/
Once into the bios go to the title Advanced, page 2-17 in your manual or page 59 in Adobe pdf viewer. Open Chipset sub-menu.
Than find, Primary Graphics Adapter page 2-21 in manual, pg 63 in Adobe.
If the TV turner card is an AGP set this to [AGP] & set AGP Fast Write Control to [Enabled].
If you are using a PCI TV tuner card set this to [PCI]. Save the bios & exit. The PC will auto restart. Press & hold the power on button until the PC shuts off. Unplug the power cord from the PC. Re-insert you're AGP TV video card. Double check all internal connectors for good connecting before closing the case. Plug in the PC's power cord & start the system. Once windows has finished loading install the TV video cards driver software.
If you installed software drivers for the P4S8X-MX other than driver software provided by Asus please uninstall that software through Add/Remove programs. (If at all possible).

Since you want to use a TV video card you can not use the onboard graphics card at the same time. This is why windows was restarting. Windows did not know which card to load. Once the onboard card has been disabled by telling the bios to load the AGP, (Assuming you're TV card is an AGP card) windows should run fine. There is always the possibility I interpreted your trouble incorrectly. If this is the case, please let me know & I'll adjust my answer to fit the issue.

Good luck bullterrier0!

Mike

Problem of starting the Window XP

Hi can you disconnect the hdd or to make it simpler disable the hdd in cmos configuration and boot the PC , if you still see the same web address on your screen as you have mentioned then you have to program your PC Bios otherwise it is not necessary to Update the Bios but it is indeed very much necessary to clean HDD and reinstall the OS.
