Canon mx 310 Printer

I just installed a new black ink cartridge and my unit is till telling me to check black ink. I ordered the ink from 123 Inkjets. I have ordered other types of ink cartridges from them and I have not had any problems. However this is the first time I have ordered this type of cartridge from them.

Please don't tell me to use my user manual, because I have already tried the instructions in the manual and they don't work. They are located on page 66 and 67. The instructions for the computer are for a Macintosh computer, which I don't have. I am using a Dell with windows XP Professional.

Thank you for your assistance.

I have put in new black and colour ink, but the printer tells me to check ink and the alarm light goes on. I have no manual and Future Shop tell me that manuals are not available. So now I am at a dead end.

    Dear Worldvet,

I tried the full 6 count on my Canon MX310, and still get the error. Should I reload the driver?
    Thanks.

I am also having the same problem - it says "black ink low" and "color ink low" despite replacement with a new cartridge and nothing seems to be wrong. Holding the stop/reset button down for six seconds did not do anything. Any further suggestions are welcome.

  • rvette Jan 07, 2009

holding down reset for 6 sec. does not clear low black ink message, with brand new cartridge installed. Tried it twice, with two new inks.

  • David4Ocean Jan 20, 2009

I have tried the reset button and still always get the warning about low ink. I use only Canon ink.

    Frustrating.

    Thanks David

Hello,

To Reset the ink low, ink out warning lights and error message, Press and hold the Stop/Reset button on your printer for a full six (6) count using the one Mississippi method.

If this does not solve your problem, use the comment box below to contact me for additional help.

Regards,
Worldvet

By the way, all, Canon is darn serious when it states that you *should* only use Canon Ink in Canon printers. This is more than just trying to make money on aftermarket sales of ink. Canon inks have patented ink pigments that are of a particular size. Any other ink will foul up your print head. I've witnessed this a lot of times in my business.

You can print with only colour or black ink if one cartridge runs out - go to your printer properties and click on maintenance - then ink cartridge settings and chose both, black or just colour. This might help if you need to print and run out of one, but to be honest, i've had the mx310 for a year or so and find that even the original canon cartridges dont last long - i'm going to try refilling them if I can next as a cheaper option.

I have the problem that I want to print black and white, but can't because my color ink is low. In the printer driver I specifically choose "grayscale printing". I know the grayscale printing works when the color ink is full (you then get b/w printouts). However, to my surprise the grayscale printing does not work when you are out of color! This is terrible!!! Luckily I found a way to print out my color document as a black and white pdf and first after this I could print out my document. I would recommend anybody to buy another printer. I thought Canon was a serious brand, but apparently there are settings that are very unintuitive except from the perspective that canon forces you to constantly buy their color ink even if your economy only permits black and white printouts. - I feel cheated!

I have a Cannon MX310 printer, scanner all in one and I was having this same problem. (of course thats how I found this site.) The advice above did not work, however after playing around with the printer I finally just cut the printer off and let it set for about one minute and then I cut it back on. When I did this and the computer started back up the ink cartriges relplaced them selves back to their proper places. After this happened the alarm light was no longer flashing and the printer worked. Now that I have fixed that problem I have to figure out why the printed work has drops of ink on it. Just as you get one thing fixed is always something else. LOL

Can't seem to find how to put ink into my canon mx 310 printer

I'm assuming when you said "fine catridge" you meant FINE cartridge. FINE is an acronym for the Canon Ink Cartridges. Anyhow, plug your printer into the electrical outlet and turn the power on. Wait about 1-3 minutes and open it up and the Ink Cartridge holders should move to the left for you to properly insert your Ink Cartridges.

On my canon MX 310 printer I put in new Canon CL-41 Fine color cartridge and now the alarm light is lit and the screen says Check Ink U051 COL How can I correcty the problem?

You may need a new cartridge, that error says the ink cartridge is wrong or not installed properly. If it's a refilled cartridge it won't work, if it's a new canon cartridge, they warranty for 30 days from date of purchase.

Check ink UO59 COL

This indicates that you have a potentially defective ink cartridge. Pull out the cartridges and make sure that all wrapping has been removed from the nozzles and that the top side wrapping has been removed from the breather area on top. Reinsert the cartridges and make sure they snap into place.
If you are using non-OEM cartridges I would try OEM cartridges. Sometimes, non-OEM cartridge ink will gum up the printer.
Let me know if this solves the problem.

Canon mx 310 alarm color cartridge empty

Go to the printer driver (control panel -> Printer -> Right Click your Printer -> Properties). From there go to maintenance tab, Ink Cartridges, Select Black only. Then click OK. Finally hold the Stop/ Reset button for 10 secs or so. It will then work after a couple of warnings.

Canon all in one printer refill ink cartridges

i have just filled my mx 310 with the jet tec refills as instructed....but do not insert the rubber bungs...instead put some celotape over the filling holes... then with a needle...pierce the celotape where the hole is( pin *****).... this set up is now able to breathe as originally designrd. Mine prints fine now this has been done (trial and error), but i might try better quality ink next fill. Its also wise to use glossy paper 230gsm or over for good results.
GOOD LUCK.
