Question about Canon PIXMA MX310 All-In-One Printer
I just installed a new black ink cartridge and my unit is till telling me to check black ink. I ordered the ink from 123 Inkjets. I have ordered other types of ink cartridges from them and I have not had any problems. However this is the first time I have ordered this type of cartridge from them.
Please don't tell me to use my user manual, because I have already tried the instructions in the manual and they don't work. They are located on page 66 and 67. The instructions for the computer are for a Macintosh computer, which I don't have. I am using a Dell with windows XP Professional.
Thank you for your assistance.

You can print with only colour or black ink if one cartridge runs out - go to your printer properties and click on maintenance - then ink cartridge settings and chose both, black or just colour. This might help if you need to print and run out of one, but to be honest, i've had the mx310 for a year or so and find that even the original canon cartridges dont last long - i'm going to try refilling them if I can next as a cheaper option.

I have the problem that I want to print black and white, but can't because my color ink is low. In the printer driver I specifically choose "grayscale printing". I know the grayscale printing works when the color ink is full (you then get b/w printouts). However, to my surprise the grayscale printing does not work when you are out of color! This is terrible!!! Luckily I found a way to print out my color document as a black and white pdf and first after this I could print out my document. I would recommend anybody to buy another printer. I thought Canon was a serious brand, but apparently there are settings that are very unintuitive except from the perspective that canon forces you to constantly buy their color ink even if your economy only permits black and white printouts. - I feel cheated!

I have a Cannon MX310 printer, scanner all in one and I was having this same problem. (of course thats how I found this site.) The advice above did not work, however after playing around with the printer I finally just cut the printer off and let it set for about one minute and then I cut it back on. When I did this and the computer started back up the ink cartriges relplaced them selves back to their proper places. After this happened the alarm light was no longer flashing and the printer worked. Now that I have fixed that problem I have to figure out why the printed work has drops of ink on it. Just as you get one thing fixed is always something else. LOL

I am also having the same problem - it says "check ink" despite replacement with a new cartridge and nothing seems to be wrong. Holding the stop/reset button down for six seconds did not do anything. Any further suggestions are welcome.
