Re: xbox 360 setup
It way be that your modem and/or router does not recognize the ethernet cord. the contacts on either the cord or port might be fried. try plugging the xbox cord into the laptop port if the laptop is hooked up by cord or try using a wireless adapter for your xbox if the wireless seems to work fine with your laptop.

No, a Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter is not required to access, and set up Xbox Live, but you will need an internet connection. If you are close enough to a modem or router, you can buy an Ethernet cord, and plug it in to both the modem/router, and firmly into your Xbox 360 console. You will either need the Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter, or the Ethernet cord. Ethernet cords are very cheaper, much cheaper than a Wireless Adapter, but the Wireless Adapters are much or easier to reason with. So choose wisely with money.
To connect to Xbox Live, you will need a wired Ethernet cord plugged into the back of your Xbox console. If you are using a Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter, you have to plug it in into the back of your Xbox located to the bottom left from flat on the ground. Also make sure you have a strong enough connection on your internet, and router/modem. Make sure your Xbox console is close enough to your router or modem as well. Also attempt to reset your connection and modem/router and see if this works. 1 or 2 bars are to low for Xbox Live gameplay. 3 or 4 bars are just quite enough. I hope this helped, just contact me if you have further questions or problems!
Basically i know its a rip off but if u wanna use wireless with the xbox 360 u need to buy the official xbox 360 wireless router which is about £60.There is another way if u dont use wireless u can connect the xbox 360 to a router or the phone line then go to your windows firewall and set it up manually.Hope this can help you .Joe stevenson
ok, firstly i hate these problems. first things first, switch your hub off (leave for 2 mins) switch back on, this may refresh the ip address, also switch your xbox off.. then try agian. Get back to me and let me know what happens from here.
oh also are you connecting your xbox to the pc? or directly to your broadband hub? if you can connect it directly to your hub, this should solve any problems
First, why are you connecting to your laptop? Second, reset your modem and router. I doubt you need to open ports that are not normally open...but if you think you need to do more, access the router and open the ports manually.
