The pictures are blurry on all channels as well as fox. The main picture seems ok but is slightly blurry, any writing that appears especially the small writing on the bottom of the screen is unreadable. On fox when you change channels those numbers are not clear as are the program descriptions as you page down.

I too would like to know the solution to this question...we are having the identical problem and Sony doesn't seem to know how to fix it. Although, the picture from the DVD player is perfect, the pictures for cable & video games are terrible. Very frustrating!
no it is not hopeless! if you want to do this procedure I can help you adjust the main screen focus inside the television on the FLYBACK TRANSFORMER but you will need to take it apart unless there are access holes in the back for the adjustment.
The writing is more blurry than the picture.
it is not that serious
1 focus wire might be loose.
2 crt base loose.
3 dust like thing near focus wire.
4 adjust focus control fitted on eht.
it is high voltage portion do not touch unless you know about it.call tech to do it.
blurry picture is mainly due to focusing voltage is not proper.
1 check & adjust focus control on flyback.
2 check crt base for loose.
3 wire going to focus control on crt base got disconnected due to foreign materials deposit on it.
4 if tv is old possibility of crt getting weak.
You didn't mention if you saw fine white diagonal lines running through the screen from top to bottom. If so, you likely have a shorted Picture Tube which is not usually fixable. If there are no lines seen running through the screen, then it is possible the High voltage transformer which also has a screen voltage and focus control built in that could be bad. I would expect the cost of that part to be about $100, so the repair cost total could approach that of a new set I would guess.
most atimes if i adjust the screen adjuster on the voltage multiplier i always observe that the screengoes green(lg 21" television),and if i readjust the screen, the greengoes off.Rubberhead, try adjusting the sceenknob on your voltage multiplier(line transformer).
