the internet is working on all 3 computers but not like it used to be, i have nitro cable internet, my provider is SHAW. i did already tried shutting down firewalls but that didn't work. when i do a pathping with or without router connected between modem & computer, it doesn't work like it should, normally it should do a traceroute over 30 hops to the ip adress i putted in but in my case it doesn't go out. it looks like when i want to start sending it blocks because i have 100% packetloss.
    any idea's?

I've turned down all firewalls included the one on the router, my router & modem are seperated and even when i try straight from modem to computer i still have the problem so router isn't the problem (i think)

Hi there, my name is Alex and im here to help with your problem

It sounds to me like a network problem to. Do any of your PC's have a firewall? If they have please disable them as a firewall blocks incoming and outcoming traffic.

You say that the internet is not working on all 3 machines? Please check all cables are connected properly both ends. Do you have an IP address given to you by your internet provider? If you can give me more info about the type of connection you have, I will be able to assist you more but firstly I would disable windows firewall and any other ones you may have installed on all 3 machines

Please let me know how you get on.

Do you use any antiviruses with a built in firewall? If so then this plus windows's firewall if enabled needs to be disabled

Do you know how to access inside the router? You can get more info by calling your ISP and they will guide you to entering your router. When you are inside the router, check to make sure the routers firewall (if it has one) is disabled. It sounds to me like this is your problem.

Another thing could be the settings of the router is not set correctly. You will need your ISP details in order to see if the correct information is set with the router.

I hope this information helps. Please keep me informed.

Need to connect reurbished dell GX520 to existing internet

first connect the "cat 5" cable to the dell's network card, the card has a square-ish hole with a little "cutout" in the top (for the cable's connector tab) the other end of the "cat 5" cable goes into the back of the router (you do have an existing router?) into one of the un-used square-ish holes (same cutout for the tab).
Then turn on the computer, see if the computer will "connect" to the router (that means it sees the router in computer-ish software).
IF that works then connect the router to the Modem (supplied by the "Internet Provider"... Then turn on the modem....

IF all goes well, your computer will now be able to connect to the existing internet.

Now for problems...

IF it seems to be connected correctly using the proper cat 5 cable, and it still will not work... turn off everything, start with the internet modem, then the router, then the computer... COUNT to 30 (1, 2, 3, 4... 29, 30) turn on the internet modem... count to 90 (1,2,3,4...90) turn on the router... count to 30 (1,2,3,4...30) turn on the computer... wait for it to fully boot, look down at the lower right of the screen and see if it can connect now.

IF it still doesn't connect, you may have to try another network card in the computer, or get a wireless USB "thingy" to connect to a wireless router...

Hope this helps...

First check to make sure you have all the light on the Dlink router lighting up (i.e. power, internet, ethernet, ect). Weather the lights are good or not, check your cables and make sure they are secure. If all the light are proper, then unplug the router for a few seconds then plug it back in. Once all the lights are on try again. If you are using wireless, plug in wired (ethernet cable) to the router. Depending on your OS and settings, you should see in the lower right hand corner a computer icon. If this has a red X on it, the router is not providing a signal to the computer. If everything looks good wired, try the internet again.

If the lights are not correct on the router and checking the cables did not fix the issue, you most likely have a problem with the router its self.

I hope this helps, if not comeback with more information (i.e. what lights are on the router, the IP address the router is giving the computer, wired works but wireless does not, the more information the better).

I am getting ready to switch from dial-up to satellite internet service, I have a Compaq Presario SR1730T and need to know what type of wireless router is best or will any wireless router be compatible????

Usually the internet service provider (even satellite) provides a modem/router to access the internet. This being said to purchase a wireless router must mean that you are going to "broadcast" your satellite internet throughout the house so that others in the house can access the internet.

In that case, no it doesn't really matter what kind of wireless router to buy. Just make sure you connect your satellite modem/router (what they send you) into the wireless router correctly. Also, make sure you put a password on that wireless router so that your neighbors or unknown persons do not gain access to your internet/computer.

Thanks.

If it is also a modem you must contact your isp and give them your mac address on the router( located on the bottom usually ). If it is DSL you must enter in the correct PPPOE information so the router can dial into your service.

on your computer try to reinstall the device driver for wireless. try to connect the ethernet cable directly to the computer. if you have internet access, then most likely your netgear router needs to be reconfigured. you need to contact your internet service provider or router manufacturer for the reconfiguration of your router. mostly likely the security settings of the router needs to be changed.

Router is hooked up correctly, but when I open internet exployer it wont go online.

Connect your computer to the modem and check first if you have an internet connection directly. If you do not contact your ISP. If you do connect the router back up, turn off and on the router then restart your computer and check the internet again.

Need to reset wirless router from pppoe to dhcp because of change internet provider

Hi Chapers,
Before resetting the router need to know the settings of your new service provider which can be changed so that it can worked with your new service provider. If the router settings are correct and you are connecting you router wirelessly with computer, need not to do anything else if it was working previously.

Try contacting the DSL provider, if not All-Operatingsystems-Lost.
U may try Start-controlpanel-network connections-local area connection-properties
Ensure correct card under connect using.
click on configure.
click on advanced.
reset to auto detect
click ok
reboot
There are sometimes issues with the PPPOE. the DSL provider should be able to resolve this.
