Go to Compaq site, and check if there are drivers for win xp. Mind that xp does not include drivers for the most recent hardware. Have you tried installing sp2 and sp3? These carry more recent drivers than SP1 and older vesions. And if there are no drivers for xp, you are stuck with vista.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

You didn't mention what OS you are running but this link will take you to the main driver page for the c500 on HP's website.

Please post your results back here, especially if you have problems finding/installing the drivers for your unit and need additional assistance.

Sound card dvr for presario v6500 with Windows XP

This is from HP's website:
If an HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario, delivered with Vista isdowngraded to the XP operating system, HP may not provide drivers.Users are encouraged to search the Microsoft web site for informationon downgrading to XP and locating updated drivers.

See Issues with Downgrading HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario PCs to Windows XP and Restoring Windows Vista for more detailed information.

The Service Manual may tell you the chipset of the sound card(but I didn't see it just part numbers). Also, you can run this utility here(look for audio in the output), in the event that you can't figure out the chipset otherwise.

According to this post, it appears that it may be part of windows update, you can try that.

SOUND DRIVER

Compaq does not provide XP drivers for your Presario notebook. However, HP uses the same soundcard on several notebooks (HP owns Compaq), and they do provide XP drivers, so here is the link:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-45570-1&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en

Download it, and install it, and you should be fine. You may need network and video drivers as well. If so, let me know.

Cheers
Nick
