I just installed my printer & when I went to print it said it was offline. Could it be a bad USB cable? Or did I do something wrong? This was why I got a new printer because the old one did the same thing never could get it back online.

Re: New printer offline
There are two possibilities: 1 - It could be a dead USB port. Are your ports listed in the device manager? If not, they are problably disabled in the system BIOS. 2 - Is the printer plugged in the same USB port that you used when you installed it? Some printers (no names here... keeps lawyers at bay) do the funny thing of installing themselves as a new device, but keeping the other connection as the default (so you create a huge list of pending documents, and when you plug it in the right place, it will print for days). Try recreating your steps when you were installing the thing.

If the system is unable to detect the printer, it will put the printer in offline mode. In this condition you won't get any print outs..
1. chk usb cable
2. un plug the usb cable, un install the drivers, plug the usb cable & chk new hard ware found?.. if not there is usb port issue, chk system usb port/s are working or not.. if yes
3. Replace printer formatter assmbly...
This printer network unable printer, why cant use through network? instead of replacing the formatter assembly...
when you hook up your printer to your pc via USB...can the computer detect your printer? does it prompt out any msg such as new device is installed and ready to use or did it ask you to install the printer driver? if your pc can't detect your printer, replace the USB cable and try again.. and try to plug into a different USB port on your pc.. and if all fails, then most probably your printer main board is faulty...
your printer correctly installed to your pc the printer driver I mean did your install it correctly? The usb cables has correctly attach to the CPU and printer? Thier is no broken wires of your usb cable did you try to replaced it with new one usb cable.
your next plan of action should be to let the printer reset its self. Unplug the printer for a few minutes then plug it back in. Turn printer on and try to print something. If this does not work then what i would do is use add remove programs and remove the software and drivers for the printer and re install them again. Read and use the manufactures recomended way of installing your new printer. Start off with printer unplugged and usb unplugged then begin as if you bought it brand new. I cant stress enough how important following the manufactures instructions are.
