Eveidently you disabled the CD from within control panel. I'm assuming you are familiar with windows, so I'm just going to give the buttons you press. Do the following:

Start(bottom left of screen)>Setting>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>DVD/CD Rom Drives +>Click on your CD and select use this device (enable) down in the bottom of the box.

Press OK and close all the boxes and see if the device appears in your safely remove hardware dialogue.

If not, go to HP.com, select downloads and find the driver for your CD and reinstal.

This should clear it up.

Good luck!!

No bootable device, hit any key

The bios cannot find any device it can boot from. This can occur because of hard disk failure, a loose connection or file corruption. There usually is a boot menu that you can get to from the bios by hitting some key specified by your bios manufacturer during the POST bootup process. Usually there is some message on screen like 'press esc for bootup options' or 'press f2 to enter bios setup' or something similar. As your machine starts up, try hitting ESC, F2, F5, F8 or F12 -one at a time-hitting each key several times during bootup (maybe your manual can give you a hint). If you get into the BIOS setup screen, look at the screen that tells you what the BIOS thinks you have attached for storage. If you don't see a hard disk there, you have a definite hardware problem. If you get into a boot option screen, try putting a Windows Installation CD, or a recovery CD from your laptop manufacturer, in the CD-ROM drive of your computer and enabling the machine to boot from the CD-ROM. If the PC boots from the CD-ROM, you may be able to use Windows Recovery mode or your manufacturer's recovery disk to get your hard drive working again. If you have any files you can't live without on your hard drive, look into getting your hard drive out of your laptop and into a USB drive enclosure that you can use another PC to try and read those files from the hard drive prior to attempting any recovery options, as some of them erase all files on your hard drive. Also check to see if your PC has manufacturer diagnostics that you can boot into to check your hardware with before attempting any other type of repairs.

My sistam is not restore ... WHY???

This error code usually points to an installation of windows that has been corrupted. I'm assuming that you have no USB flash drives plugged into the laptop when booting, if so, remove these and try a reboot.
Then try to boot to safe mode (f8)
If this fails, boot from the CD drive by setting the DC boot option as 1st boot in the bios, put the windows installtion CD in the drive and go through the install proceedure, selecting the REPAIR option.
If this fails, you will need to reinstall windows.
To recover any lost files, after reinstalling windows, download a utility such as recover my files and set it to a format recovery to get any lost files back.

My cd drive will read cds but wont read as a burner

Not all Inspirons have CD burners (the 4 factory options were CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, and DVD/CD-RW. You can confirm that via Windows Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager and double click on DVD/CD-ROM drives to see what model drive you have, then just Google it to see what it's capable of.

In case you have either a CD-RW type drive or a DVD/ CD-RW drive and it doesn't want to burn CD's , then it's a bad drive.

MY , CD/DVD LAPTOP DRIVER DOESN'T WORK. IT CAN

goto run and type "compmgmt.msc"(without quotes) and select disc management if the dvd drive is showing below the hard disks means your dvd drive is working fine only thing you have to do is to right click on the CD-Rom 0 and change drive letter and paths to it
.if the CD ROM option is not seen in disk management then you have to go to the device manager option under computer management and expand cd/dvd -rom drives and you will find your dvd drive model if not that means that your dvd drive has got hardware problem

Hi I'm Rain ,
Ok follow these instructions to reboot your CD Rom drive.

  1. click start then My Computer .
  2. In My Computer right click the DVD/CD rom drive icon .
  3. In the list , Click eject to see if the drive is being reconized .
  4. If nothing happens repeat steps 1-2
Now when you get to sep 3 you will click properties .

5. In properties click Hardware .

6. In Hardware click the DVD/CD device to highlight it .

7. Click properties .

Now look to the bottom of that window to see device status .
If it says , this device is working properly .Properties .
Next click Driver . In driver you will see a list of option tabs that allows you to , Roll Back driver Update driver and Disable driver .
The other option is Driver Details.

Click Roll Back driver to restore the driver back to the state before you added the latest program . Click ok and follow the screen instructions.
If this fails , you can follow these steps to get back to Driver and chose
Disable Driver . Click ok if another window pops up.
Now what you are doing is rebooting the DVD/CD rom drive.
This will restart all the drivers that are associated with the DVD/CD rom
device .
Now follow all the steps again to get back to Driver .
Now in Driver you will need to click Enable to restart the DVD/CD rom
device . Reboot your system and try the DVD/ CD tray to see if it responds . If it still fails to respond you most likely will need to replace or service the DVD/CD Rom Hardware { the Tray } .

My dell inspirion e1705 cd and dvd drive isnt working how can fix it?

there's not much "fixing" that can go into cd drives other than getting a cleaning kit and making sure the lens doesn't have any junk on it. If you clean it and it's still not working, get on Dell's website and order a replacement.

Cd rom has stopped working. the light is flashing as if it is working but the cd is not spinning.

Check the disk for scratches, and try other disks to make sure the problem is not unique to that one disk. If all disks fail, then double-click on My Computer, then double click on the CD-Rom drive and see if a CD will run. The "autorun" option may have been disabled, which is very noticeable if you've been used to this feature working. To re-enable autorun, right click on the cd-rom drive in My Computer, and go to device properties - recheck the autorun or autoplay option.

If none of the above resolve, then turn off your computer. Open up your computer with screwdriver. Unplug and replug the cd-rom driver. Restart computer. Test cd-rom drive again.

If it still fails, Make sure you are connected to the internet (I am assuming Windows XP - Vista may vary): Go to Start --> Control Panel --> Printers & Other Hardware --> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager --> DVD/CD Rom Drives - se if the drive has a yellow exclamation by it - if it does, then right click on the yellow exclamation, and click install drivers - windows will most likely find a solution

If all of the above fails, write back with more details, including model/manufatcurer of cd-rom drive, and model/manufatcurer of computer.
