It sounds like a shutdown circuit is being activated. This is normal in
cases where the power supply id drawing excessive current. I would
suggest that you get this looked at by a qualified professional. This
is because this problem may be in the power supply and the voltages can
get dangerous in this section of the TV set.
In any event if this is a power supply problem chances are the
technician will just have to replace the power supply.

Hi Tammy,
Please check the INPUT of your TV by pressing INPUT, SOURCE or TV/VIDEO on your TV remote. Once you press one of those ( that was on your TV remote ) you should have INPUT lists on your TV screen. All you have to do is select each one on the list until you get a picture ( normally input is TV ). Hope it helps.
If this set has a cable box, satellite box or even a receiver hooked up to it remove power from them and the set for a while and power back to see if a reboot cures this issue.
short of that someone who is willing and knows how to check things is going to have to look inside and test things, repair if not what I have suggested consists of replacing boards which can either fix the set or not and gets expensive.
Hi...I am sorry to say that I had this exact problem. It ended up being the upper and lower panel drives. I contacted Hitachi and even though my unit was out of warranty, they agree to pay for parts. I paid for labor myself, and it cost me $199.95.
Good luck with it...let me know how it turns out for you.
I finally got information from the repair shop. Apparently it is the
upper and lower panel drive. The parts are supposedly not more than a
couple hundred dollars, though I'll let you know when I get the bill. I
do want to say that Hitachi was great when I called them. Even though
my plasma is out of warranty by a few months, they agreed to pay for
parts if I pay for labor. That just might keep me buying Hitachi
products despite the issues I've had with my 2 plasmas.
