I got locked out

Everytime I try to turn on my laptop, the second keyboard status light (the lock with a capital A in it) starts blinking a few times then it shuts off.

    straight from dell's website:

Dell Solution Network: Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Wizard

Dell™ Notebook Computer Locks Up During or After the Boot Sequence

STEP: Run the PSA Diagnostics and Obtain the PSA Error Code

    Additional Information

To run the PSA diagnostics and obtain the PSA error code, perform the following steps:

    1. Shutdown the computer.

    2. Press and hold the key, then press and release the power button.
Release the key when the lock lights above the keyboard begin to flash or Diagnostic boot selected is displayed in the upper right corner of the screen.

    3. Release the key.

      • The PSA diagnostics sequence begins.

      • After approximately 2 minutes the system produces a number of alert tones.

      • After the alert tones, the system produces either a series of low beeps or error codes.

      Note:

PSA diagnostics will prompt for input during some tests. The
resulting error message does not necessarily indicate hardware failure.

For example, input is required during the color bar test. Failure to
input a response will eventually result in a timeout error: 1000-0333 Graphics test timed out waiting for keyboard response. This does not indicate a graphics failure has occurred.

    4. Note the sequence of beeps or error codes.

Caps are on all the time

Press the
"caps lock" key once to take it off capital letters. If that doesn't work, get an external keyboard and plug it in and try it. That should do it.

Lock light turns on then blinks and wont start

Possible that the lock switch contact has some issues, try a cleaning spray on the switch and open and close the door several times with the spray. This might clear the switch contacts.
Also make sure that the contacts to the connectors from the control panel are in order, remove and tighten or repeat few times.
Otherwise the control panel can be a suspect.

Dell inspiron 2200 laptop - what are the 4 lights on top right of keyboard for? the first one is constantly blinking and the others are never lit up

Hi those are your keyboard and status lights

Looking at your laptop from the front the first light on your Right hand side is your scroll lock light and is only on when you press the scroll lock button (the symbol shows a lock with a little down arrow)

The light to the left hand side of that light is your caps lock light and again only turns on when you press the caps lock key (The symbol shows a lock with a A in it)

The light to the left hand side of that is your numeric keypad light (Symbol has a lock with a 9 in it), this comes on when you press the num lock key on your keybaord

Finally the last key is your hard drive light (like a cylinder), this will be flashing most of the time as you use your PC as it is constantly reading and writing data

Shauqat

AS SOON AS I START MY LAPTOP, THE CAPS LOCK LIGHT GOES ON. HITTING THE CAPS LOCK KEY WILL NOT PUT OUT THE LIGHT...AT TIMES FOR A FEW SECONDS THE CAPS LOCK LIGHT WILL GO OFF... BUT IT WILL REVERT TO BEING...

WHENEVER YOU ARE STARTING YOUR LAPTOP LET IT BE THROUGH WITH WHATEVER IS DOING BEFORE YOU INTERFERE IN THE LOADING BECAUSE NORMALLY TURNING CAP LOCK ON WHEN STARTING OF A SYSTEM SIMPLY MEANS THE MOTHERBOARD IS OK AND YOU TRYING TO OFF THE CAPLOCK IT MIGHT NOT RESPOND TO YOUR PRESSING UNTIL IT FINISH INITIALIZING THEN BEFORE YOU CAN CORRECT ANY THING AND THE BEST SOLUTION FOR IT IF YOU KNOW IS A PROBLEM THAT IS FIGHTING YOUR SYSTEM I F THAT PERSIST THEN RELOAD YOUR SYSTEM BY REFORMATTING IT AND AFTER THAT IF OFFING THE CAPLOCK SIMPLY MEAN ON THEN THE KEYBOARD IS MALFUNCTIONING OR BEFORE REFORMATTING IT TRY USING AN EXTERNAL KEYBOARD THAT YOU WILL ATTACHED TO THE SYSTEM AT THE BACK WHERE WE HAVE THE INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICE PORT THEN TRY STARTING IT IF THE SAME IMPLIES ON THAT BEFORE YOU GO ON FORMATTING THE SYSTEM OK.

My Logitech EX110 wireless keyboard has no light indicators for CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK. Should it have those indicators?

Your EX 110 receiver has 3 indicator lights (LEDs) that display the status of the Caps lock, Function key, and the Num lock during normal operating mode. These lights will also flash when the connect button on the receiver is pressed.
LED A: Indicates that the Caps Lock (Capital lock) key is on when lit.
LED F: Indicates that the F keys are in Standard F Keys Mode when lit and in Enhanced F Keys Mode when the LED is off.
  • Your EX 110 keyboard has an Enhanced F Keys Mode for F keys that provides additional functions you can program. See Knowledge Base article 9526.
LED 1: Indicates when the Num Lock (Number lock) key is on. This function allows the number pad to produce only numbers
