Dual Channel for DDR os not function

I have 2 pcs DDR that located in DIMM 1 and DIMM 2, with the same manufacture. Each of DDR are:

DIMM 1 -> KINGSTON, DDR PC3200, CL3, 512 MB
DIMM 2 -> KINGSTON, DDR PC3200, CL3, 1024 MB

But the problem is The Dual Channel still not active. I see on first boot was "1ST SINGLE CHANNEL 64 bit". Then I try to find the new BIOS version, but it didn't available on www.abit.com.tw.

Could you help me my friends ... ??

The problem might be your ram are not dual channel. Dual channel ram are usually matched in pairs in speed and size of modules ( 2 modules of 1gigs or 2modules of 512). Check out crucial technology site in the support section either F&Q or live chat with them....Doc

Info from the manual:

Memory configurations

You can install 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1GB DDR SDRAM DIMMs into the DIMM sockets using the memory configurations in this section.

• Install only identical (the same type and size) DDR DIMM pairs

using the recommended configurations.

• Make sure that the memory frequency matches the CPU FSB

(Front Side Bus). Refer to the Memory frequency/CPU FSB

synchronization table on the next page.

• This motherboard does not support double-sided 16-bit DDR DIMMs.

• Do not create a three-DIMM configuration in dual-channel mode. The
third DIMM is ignored in the dual-channel operation.

Recommended memory configurations

Not recognizing memory.

The Asus P4S800-X MB can use Dual channel DDR memory and single channel memory. The dual channel memory which comes in matching packs. (Normally 2 DIMMS per pack) is the faster memory.
In other words if you are installing, 4- 512MB DIMMS of PC3200 all memory should be matched,
or you're MB may not see all connected DIMM'S.

See page vii in you're manual. If you're running windows XP, Home or Pro edition the bios will show up to 4GB of memory installed but windows XP 32bit will only show 3GB of memory. As mentioned above all 4 of you're 512MB of memory should be dual channel and run at the same speed. You can run both single channel and dual channel but you must follow Table 1 in you're manual. (1-9).
Example; PC3200 400MHz.
Or 4-512MB PC2700 333MHz. See page 1-9 for memory configurations and the QVL list supported.
Check out Asus FAQ's; http://support.asus.com/faq/faq.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P4S800D-X&product=6&os=17

This should help you configure the memory.
Good luck!
Mike

I wish to add RAM in the PC. Mine motherboard-Epox-EP-4BDA533(I). ID(identification)-05/09/2003-i845d-6A69VPA8C-00. On it costs RAM 256Mb -DDR PC2100 266Mg FSB-400Mg. How many Mb it is possible to add....

Manufacturer Specifications - EPoX EP-4BDA533I Number of Slots:
Slot 1
Slot 2
Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700,DDR PC3200 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*
*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.
  • 184-pin DIMM Banking: 2 (2 banks of 1)
  • Chipset: Intel 845D
  • Error Detection Support: ECC and non-ECC
  • Graphics Support: AGP 4X
  • Max Component Density: 512Mb
  • Max Unbuffered DDR SDRAM: 2048MB
  • Module Types Supported: Unbuffered only
  • Supported DRAM Types: DDR SDRAM only
  • USB Support: 1.x Compliant
Q: What memory goes into my computer, and will a faster speed be backward-compatible?
A: DDR memory with support for DDR PC2700,DDR PC3200 speeds.
Because DDR memory is backward-compatible, you can safely upgrade your system with any of the guaranteed-compatible DDR speeds listed below, even if your manual calls for PC1600 or PC2100 speeds.
Q: How much memory can my computer handle?
A: 2048MB.
Adding the maximum amount of memory will improve performance and help extend the useful life of your system as you run increasingly demanding software applications in the future.
Q: Do I have to install matching pairs?
A: No.
No, you can install modules one at a time, and you can mix different densities of modules in your computer. But if your computer supports dual-channel memory configurations, you should install in identical pairs (preferably in kits) for optimal performance.
Q: Does my computer support dual-channel memory?
A: No.
Your system does not support dual channel.
Q: Does my computer support ECC memory?
A: Yes.
Your system supports ECC. You can put non-ECC modules into an ECC system, but be sure not to mix ECC and non-ECC modules within a system. Install the same type of modules that are already in your system.

Ram issue with compaq presario 5000 G1 Series

as you can see from the information below there are different requirements for RAM to work stable in your system . Most importand are the RAM VOLTAGE , SPEED , and Configuration of chips. you will need to consult the manual for qualified RAM requirements. Some RAM will work but not very stable. make sure the voltage supplied by your system is enough for the RAM. If you are running DDR RAM in dual channel mode, the ram needs to be the same size also. DIMM modules for the HP computer must meet the following requirements
  • The number of pins on the DIMM must match the socket type.
  • DDR memory requires a 184-pin slot and 1.8 operating voltage.
  • DDR2 memory is not compatible with DDR1 memory and requires a 240-pin slot and 2.5 operating voltage.
  • Synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM): Only use DDR type SDRAM memory if the computer came with DDR-SDRAM.
  • SO-DIMM modules for the HP computer must meet the following requirements
    • The number of pins on the DIMM must match the socket type.
    • SO-DIMM memory requires a 200-pin slot.
    • DDR2 SO-DIMMs are not compatible with DDR1 DIMM and DDR2 DIMM memory modules.
    • With a computer running at a system bus of 533 MHz or 667 MHz, use a PC2-4200 (DDR2 DIMM 533) type.
    • The following requirements must be met for the DDR memory to function in dual channel mode:
      • Same density (256MB, 512MB, etc.)
      • Same DRAM chip technology (x8 or x16)
      • All either single-sided or dual-sided
      • Matched in both Channel A and Channel B memory channels

DDr or Dual Channel Ddr

From the manual:

2 x 184 pin DDR DIMM Sockets support up to maximum 2 GB unbuffered PC 2700/2100/1600 non-ECC DDR SDRAM memory.

So, to answer your question, for your particular motherboard, no. However, to dispute the other poster, Dual channel is better than regular DDR. It's just your motherboard does not support it.

Ram support

As much as I would love to spend a couple hours making you a list of Ram that your board supports, not happening.
However you can do this your self by looking in your manual.
Download your manual here:
http://www.giga-byte.com/Support/Motherboard/Manual_Model.aspx?ProductID=1863

Go to the top of page 15.
Your board requires a voltage of no more than 2.5v
GA-8IPE1000 Series includes 4 DIMM sockets, and each Channel has two DIMM sockets as following:
Channel A : DDR 1, DDR 2
Channel B : DDR 3, DDR 4
If you want to operate the Dual Channel Technology, please note the following explanations due to the
limitation of Intel chipset specifications.
1. Dual channel memory cannot be used if one DDR memory modules are installed.
2. If two DDR memory modules are installed (same storage capacity), one must be added to the
Channel A slot and the other in the Channel B slot in order to use dual channel memory. Dual
channel memory cannot function if both DDR memory modules are installed on the same channel.
3. If four DDR memory modules are installed, please use memory of the same storage capacity in
order to use dual channel memory and for BIOS to detect all the DDR memory modules.
We'll strongly recommend our user to slot two DDR memory modules into the DIMMs with the same color in
order for Dual Channel Technology to work.

You board supports this type of memory:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80097-16
Or
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1717669&CatId=1352

Good Luck & kind Regards.
& please vote.
