I have a model# DDE 7907, serial# vh240883 GE dryer. Your response was the belt tensioner roller. With all due respect I don't think it is that because the sound is coming from above the tensioner. I can turn the drum a little bit at a time and every revolution you can hear a little sound right in the middle of the drum near the back wall.

It is probably the belt tensioner roller. They are not that hard to replace and not that expensive either. If you have it replaced consider replacing the belt while you're at it.

My dryer makes a loud noise when turned on seems to be comming from the back of the drum

Hello there: Here is the only things that noise could even beginning to come from so please read the entire list i have provided below Rear drum bearingSome dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn.

Loud squealing sound when the basket first spins up this is a Kenmore stacked set, washer on the bottom, and dryer on top

Your problem could be a bad bearing...The drum rides in a bearing at the rear middle of unit..Its basically a plastic insert...When the dryer is first started the bearing will squeal until the plastic warms up..Normally you will hear the squeal at the back middle of dryer...Your problem may also be the belt tensioner...Again a plastic wheel with a metal bearing inside...Normally this squeal will be from start to finish..

Squealing dryer.

Squealing usually refers to dry bearings. And the only bearings on a dryer that I know of, are where the shaft of the drum attaches to the back. But these seldomly give trouble. Can you tell where in the dryer it's coming from?

The dryer squeals (metallic sound) while drying clothes.

check wear pads around front of drum or rear depending on brand. Ge's are particularly prone to scraping sounds, but still one of my preferred brands. IF a ge, did it get any dents around the sides or back? The drum is close to the sides and a dent in right place will do it. Also the rear panel can push the drum forward rubbing in front.
Ge - wear strips in front, plastic bearing in rear center, replace both, inexpensive.
Whirlpool- felt pad and wear strip in front, felt seal in rear with roller support. check rear seal lube rollers
Maytag -roller in front and rear with front and rear felt seals. some designs have front drum support posts with wear pads. ck these.
Frigidaire (include some sold under GE name) rear bearing cup (plastic)-lube, front feltpad with wear plates if plates gone get new pad/wearplate asm.
Maytag and ge nomenclature tags are in rear .

Kenmore 417.81042000 Electric dryer has loud squealing sound

My dryer of the same model number had the same issue. The teflon/plastic wear points are worn out or have fallen off. They are about $22.00 plus shipping at the site below. Disconnect the power, lift (with force) the top off at the front of the dryer and you will have access to remove and replace.

Felt glide assembly - Upper felt seal with three glides attached. Comes with adhesive.
Part Number: AP2150497 made by FRIGIDAIRE
