Question about HP Printers & Copiers

11 Answers

HP Photosmart C6180 printer doesn't print yellow. I have replaced all cartridges with new ones and gone throught the cleaning and alignment menus without success. I performed the extended self test diagnosis and I see that item 73 states: "Print Head Calibration Confidence Level: 0." In the past I have used refilled cartridges with no problems.

    Thanks Nick, but as stated in my initial posting I have replaced all cartridges with new ones. By that I mean new HP original cartridges.
    Although I appreciate your comments they do not solve the problem.
    I can't undo having put refilled cartridges in the printer. So we're back to square one.

  • Kurzy Oct 11, 2008

    I have gone through the entire HP diagnostic, alignment and cleaning menus and still no yellow

  • Kurzy Oct 11, 2008

    Thanks but none of that worked. The # and 6 buttons had no effect and no reset appeared. The printer came on as usual.

    Thanks to Y'all

  • Kurzy Oct 11, 2008

    Thanks Pride but that didn't do it either.
    Still no yellow

  • Kurzy Oct 11, 2008

    Thanks Proton, but no, there were no yellow stripes.
    I do not have a second computer but can locate one and check further.

    The alignment fails causing very poor performance. I have replaced all the ink cartridges, and cleaned the print heads. What else could be causing the problem.

This sort of issue can also be caused if the electrical contacts between an ink cartridge and the print carriage are dirty. Assuming all the cartridges have ink in them, you should check the electrical contacts on *both* the cartridges and the print carriage. HP.com has a web page that shows you how:

Cleaning Electrical Contacts

also try this in the same manner as the instryctions are given.a slight change in doing will not reset.

The issue might be with the printer's cartridge or might be with the print head. So, please check for the ink levels of the cartridges and try cleaning them and also the print heads.

Try to perform the following steps:

1. Verify that the unit is switched on. Unplug the all-in-one from power and disconnect the connection port.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug in the power only.
4. Repeat steps 2-4 two more times.
5. On the third time after plugging the unit into power, reconnect the connection port from the all-in-one to your computer.

Let us reset the printer to the factory settings

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on.

2. Press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.

Just my piece,

browsed thru all suggestions and all that you've done.
new carts, cleaned contacts where cart snaps in, alignment, head cleaning, HP's troubleshooting.

original or refill is not recognized by the printer anymore. this type of problem with inkjets regardless of brand is bound for service/replacement.

Hello,

From the start of your question, i realize that there is no problems in the ink. the only problem put in my mind was the printer head of the printer. If the printer got older the some of the nozzle which passes the ink got sticky in which the yellow portion is affected. Our repair services here got to resolve this problem by pull outing the printer head and then clean it or blow it with air. If this not resolve the issue, there is a loss connection of the circuit connecting from the printer circuit board to the printer head of the printer.

may this help;

Hi,
The problem is with the print head and the , thin plastic signal cable that is attaches the print ahead to the printer. This part is not user replaceable and requires a technician to service the same.
As you have mentioned having run the HP diags. The test page , did it display yellow stripes or not.
Secondaly, if you have another computer at your place, or can check the printer on another system , it would help isolate the problem with the printer.

Thanks
proton

OK.
The pocket where your cartridge snaps into. There is some gold connectors that will transfer signal to the cartridge telling it what to do . Now Take a bottle of rubbing alcohol and get a cotton swab or something of that nature. And rub on those contact points ( Not the new cartridge you have bought). The cartridges you buy are very clean and most cases never need clean. But on the other hand the printers continue to age and do to the moisture levels in a home being a level higher than that of outdoor moisture levels (factoring in cooking and what not) its not to say you have developed some invisible level of corrosion.
P.S If you don't have alcohol do not substitute it with any thing like acetone. I have did my best to apply to you laymen terminology for your benefit. good luck and thanks .

Yours truly;

Hi Kurzy,

This problem is pretty wide spread with this model and nobody knows why. We don't need to know the why, just the how - to fix it. I have found in my experience that once a printer gets something stuck in its very limited memory, it wants to hold onto it for dear life. Try this if after all the head cleanings and cartridge alignments have failed. Click Start>control panel>system> click the hardware tab, choose the device manager, scroll to imaging devices, find your unit and right click>uninstall. In the add/remove programs in control panel find printer and uninstall everything that has to do with your model. Power off your computer, while it is powered down, un-cable the printer from the computer. Now, don't use the manufacturers install cd, instead, go to:
http://www.hp.com/country/us/en/welcome_thumb_supp.html#Support

Before you download your software create a new folder on your desktop and name it something relevant to the software you are downloading i.e. newhpdrivers. Download software. Power off your computer, reconnect the printer to the computer, turn the printer on and power on the computer. Windows will detect new hardware and the wizard will ask for manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files. Direct the wizard to the newhpdrives folder. Follow the instructions, restart when prompted, done. I hope this helped a little.

Thank you for using FixYa.com

Hi,

Initially, pls try a reset:

  • power on the C6180 using the ON button;
  • unplug the AC cord from the mains;
  • simultaneously press and hold the # and 6 button while plugging the unit back to the mains;
  • maintain press & hold on the above buttons until display goes blank;
  • release both buttons;
  • power on the C6180 using the ON button;
  • "RESET" should be displayed.
Additionally, you may want to reference this page for additional insights.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

HP A636 will not print yellow; tricolor cartridge is new

  • Align the print cartridge.
The printer automatically aligns the print cartridge after a new one is installed. You can also align the print cartridge at other times to ensure optimal print quality. Indications that you need to align the print cartridge manually include borderless prints with white space
along an edge, colors not printing satisfactorily, or poor print quality.

To align the print cartridge from the printer
  1. Load a sheet of HP Advanced Photo Paper in the input tray.
  2. Touch the Setup icon to display the Setup menu. For more information, see "Setup Menu" on page 16.
  3. Touch Cartridge.
  4. Touch Align Cartridge and follow the prompts.

Clean the print cartridge automatically.
If the printed pages are missing lines or dots or contain ink streaks, the print cartridge might be low on ink or need to be cleaned.
CAUTION: Clean the print cartridge only when necessary.
Unnecessary cleaning wastes ink and shortens the life of the cartridge.

  • Clean the cartridge.
Follow these steps to clean the cartridge automatically:
To clean the print cartridge from the printer,
  1. Touch the Setup icon to display the Setup menu. For more information, see "Setup Menu" on page 16.
  2. Touch Cartridge.
  3. Touch Clean Cartridge and follow the prompts.
If the documents are still missing lines or dots after cleaning, replace the print cartridge.

The yellow cartridge doesn't print

Either the print head is blocked or the cartridge is empty, you can try the clean accessory in the printer toolbox/maintenance, if that fails, replace the cartridge.

All colors need to be present to pass alignment. Usually what I see is the yellow is empty. You can blot the print cartridge on a damp paper towel to verify the inks are working and this also cleans the head.

All you need to do is an alignment on the printer.You will find that option in the control panel menus.If it still does not work try resetting the printer using the # and the number 6 buttons,holding them down and then inserting the power cord at the back of the printer.

HP Photosmart C5280 printer - 1 month old not printing correctly

Usually this problem is indicative of a clogged nozzle. I'm not sure about the track record of the Photosmart C5280 (a lot of Epson printers have this problem, and you just have to keep replacing the ink cartridges). I'm going to assume you tried this, but go ahead and run a few cleaning cycles on the printer, and see what happens.
