Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router

Suddenly router stopped working!

When I connect Modem to Desptop directly Internet works...

When I connect Modem to this router and connect router to the desptop thru wire, Internet doesn't work (for both desptop & laptop)....

When I connect Modem directly to Laptop, internet doesn;t work.

Upto yesterday everythign used to work.... as expected.

what is the problem and would be resolution.

    I tried all of these several times today, none of the combinations working for some reason. I can't believe suddenly how it can stop working !

    I also tried to reset to factory settings - still same issue....

    its comcast.. they have verified... from their perspective it is operational. because when I connect modem directly to desktop - it works.



    they can't do anything - thats what they told me

After few tries, I was able to upgrade firmware and it started working.

Hi jsamanta!

First of all check if the power light is blinking or solid. if it's blinking reset your router.

When your computer is directly connected to the router try checking the IP address by clicking start>run> type cmd then ok. then type ipconfig then hit enter. IP address should be something like 192.168.1.100. not 169.254.xx.xx. if it's the latter reset your router. use a ball point pen or a paper clip. the reset button is a small hole at the back. If the IP address is like the first one i've mentioned. log-in to your router.

launch browser (internet explorer or firefox)
type http://192.168.1.1 or whatever your default gateway is. go to the status tab and check if you are getting a WAN or internet IP address. if not you will see a "release" and "renew" button. hit release then renew. if you're still not getting anything. do a power cycle. turn everything off. connect everything the way they are supposed to be connected. turn on modem first then router then computer.

If everything fails the last options is a firmware update on the router.

    Can you also give me the status of the power light? is it solid or blinking?

    What is the IP address that you are getting when your computer is connected to the router?

    • Before you start, be sure you are using a PC that is connected to the WRT54G via a wired (Ethernet) connection.

    • Open your web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.)
      In the Address bar, type in the IP address of your router. The default IP address is 192.168.1.1.

    • Leave the username blank and enter your password. The default password is "admin" all lower case.

    • Click on the Administration tab.

    • Click on Firmware Upgrade.

    • Browse for the firmware file that you have just extracted. The file name should end in .bin

    • Click the Upgrade button.The router will begin its upgrade routine. Do not power off or unplug the router until the process is completed. This process may take up to 5 minutes to complete.

    Can you try cloning the mac address of your computer to the router. You can do it on the router's configuration page.

Hello. I have a Dlink dir 600 router and it worked without problems for about a year (usually there were 2-3 laptops wirellesly connected to it). Then suddenly I couldn?t connect to the internet anymore....


Make sure all the wires are connected properly. 1.-Unplug your modem and router from the power supply. Wait 1 minute. 2.-Plug your modem back to the power and wait for all the lights to stop flashing. 3.-Plug your router back to the power and wait for the lights to stop flashing
Follow these steps and your internet should be working again!

Router stopped working.


As long as the power light stays solid, then the router is fine. You need to reconfigure the router for it to receive internet connection from the modem.

D-link has stopped working with comcast internet.


Are you trying to install the router.You can do it manually
without the CD.
MAke sure that your computer is able to go
online through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online
through the modem
Then you need to connect the computer to the
router ad the modem to the router.

router and change the settings of the router according to the
ISP.

First: Connect your computer directly to the ADSL modem. It has an Ethernet port.
If you can't get to the Internet while your computer is connected directly to the modem, then ytour router never will either. Call ISP if you can't connect to the Internet when directly conencted to the modem.
Next: Check your router wires again, The modem must be connected to the "special" port on the router. Look at the router. There is one port separated from the rest. Connect the modem to that port. Conenct to the Internet.
Still no Internet?
Reset your router by pushing a stylus (straightened-out paperclip) into the reset "hole" on the router (with router powered ON).
Push & hold for 30 seconds or until the lights do their reset dance. Connect to the INternet.

Internet Connects but disconnects suddenly


Who is your ISP?
It seems you are experiencing intermittent connection. Bypass the router and check if the same problem exist when connected directly to the modem. If the internet works fine with the modem.then you have to configure the router correctly.

Wrt54g V8 Suddenly stopped working

-- who is your internet service provider
-- what is the operating system of your computer?
-- is this working fine before or is this a brand new router

you may try this and see if this help solve your problem. make sure your computer is directly connected to the router

Step 1: Shutdown the computer.
Step 2: reset the router while power on then Unplug the router’s power cable.
Step 3: Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
Step 4: Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable.
Step 5: Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable.
Step 6: Power on the computer on and configure the router settings
Step 7: test the Internet connection.

if this still didnot work, upgrade the firmware of your router

Lost internet connection


Change the calbe from the router to the dsl modem. Make sure you check labels on the rear of these devices to make sure the connections go where indicated. Is there and ethernet light on your modem. If that is on then the connection is made. Also check if the DSL modem works directly connected to the pc.
