Question about Refrigerators

RCA freezer problem

I have an RCA Refrigerator/Freezer mod # MTX18EAXJRWH. The food is always frost covered, it seems that it got warm / soft food and then refroze. The food is so frost bitting that I end up throwing it out. Also I find the fan is always running and that it is very cold, and I have the freezer setting at the lowest setting. No issues with the refrigerator.

SOURCE: Refrigerator/freezer is warm, fan is running.

The problem is the compressor isnt starting. The relay is probably ok. It should have 5yr warranty on the compressor. However if you purchase a Supco RC0810 start assist relay available at all appliance parts stores, it will start the compressor, however this is only a temp fix. But it should last till sears can put a new compressor in.

SOURCE: Thermostat (1) Assembly defrost, (2) damper, (3)Thermostat???

If it is digital control its either the thermistor or the control itself, if it is manual then the problem is the thermostat.

SOURCE: Frigidaire is freezing everything

Make sure the light is going off when the door is in the closed position. Find the switch that the door makes contact with when it closes. If the light is not going out the heat from the light being on could cause such a problem.

You have a defrost condensate drain blockage where all the water from defrost remains inside the freezer compartment and causes the symptons you are having. I cannot tell you how to remove every model numbers freezer rear panel but I think that if you study over my link here=> Leaking Refrigerators and this link HERE you will get an idea of what to do. My fridge part of fridge/freezer doesn't work

Post the model number of the refrigerator. Defrost freezer behind where the cold air circulates with a hair drier. (unplug power first!) Most times when a refrigerator side stops cooling it is because the freezer evaporator behind the panel in the back of freezer (most times) has become blocked by frost=> SEE PHOTO Most times the panel before you see the frosted covering the evaporator will begin to show a layer of frost building=> SEE PHOTO (Click each photo to enlarge.) Sometimes the fresh food section of the refrigerator side will warm because ice or frost will block the damper from moving that regulates temperatures in the fresh food section. Sometimes the damper is defective and sometimes the sensor that controls the damper movement is defective. For these reasons it is important that you provide your model numbers so someone knows just what type refrigerator you have to cover all of the possibilities of what may be wrong causing the warming of the fresh food section and soon the freezer section will also begin to warm. The most likely cause are the defrost control, ADC Adaptive Defrost Control, defrost heater, defrost thermostat, air damper and air damper sensors in that order. Let me know what you have and I will try to identify just what may be happening, Thanks Sea Breeze

FREEZER NOT FREEZING PROPERLY

There could be a large list of things that cause the freezer to warm up from the temperature it was before. The most likely reason is you probably have a defrost problem. Defrost heater, defrost thermostat and the defrost control are all things that may have failed. If your model is not a frost free let me know. Look inside freezer for a layer of frost building on the rear wall. If your refrigerator is not defrosting it will be a short time before the fresh food compartment begins to warm. To extend the time your refrigerator and freezer can keep food safe defrost by placing a bucket of hot water inside the freezer and close the door. Please place food from freezer and fresh food compartment into another refrigerator or cold storage area. By keeping doors shut as much as possible the refrigerator and freezer will last up to a week this way before defrosting again, Sea Breeze

With 'no-frost' fridgerators, they enter a 'defrost' cycle that is supposed to elimnate any frost. There are a few suspect parts, but it should be 1 of 2 parts. The timer that controls when it enters the 'defrost' cycle is occuring too often, or more likely, there is a thermostat that overrides the timer once the temp on the cooling coils (not freezer) reaches, say 55 degrees and commands the freezer to resume cooling.... I bought a themostat off amazon for $26 and put it in and no longer have my ice tray frozen solid after prolonged defrosting. Google 'no-frost' fridge how it works...

Food in freezer covered in ice particles

The only way frost can form on the outside of your frozen foods is from moisture in the air entering the freezer. This happens when the door is opened exessively or your door seal is not seated firmly to the frame when the door is closed.

If you have frost on the back wall of the freezer compartment you have a defrost problem. When the freezer coil does not defrost the refrigerator does not get air for cooling.

My frost free fridge freezer is set to high and still only gets down to about 11c and is usually at about 15c

You may have ice blocking the opening in which your freezer air passes through to go into there refrigerator .Try this, unplug the refrigerator for for at least 14 hours ,that should allow all of the ice to melt. Then ,plug it back in and take the temperature of both freezer and fresh food sides. You should find a temperature that will hold at or very close to Zero degrees in your freezer side.Start with this for your first step in repairing this and get back to me.
