Question about Projection Televisions

Mitsubishi VS60805 I replaced the 2 ICs and it did not fix the 3d and color convergence problem. The TV was recently moved by trailer for 50 miles. I wonder if the tubes were knocked out of alignment? Could it also be the power supply fuses? Thanks Bob

    Thanks for the advice.


    The problems are: 3D effect, color shadowing, and the entire screen image appears to bend.


    How do I check for cold solder joints and for bad resistors?

An article of manufacture comprising a cathode ray tube is disclosed for use in a projection television system. The tube has a funnel and a face panel with a window for receiving a rectangular imaging screen. The projection television system includes tube receptacle means having conjugate means for accepting the tube in proper rotational alignment. The tube according to the invention is characterized by having two pairs of substantially radially oriented embossments on the funnel. The embossments are centered on, and azimuthally spaced one hundred and eighty degrees apart, on a diametrical line about forty-five degrees in counterclockwise rotation with respect to the minor axis of the rectangular imaging screen. The pairs of embossments according to the invention provide for engagement with the conjugate means of the tube receptacle means for proper rotational alignment of the tube in the system.

For use in the manufacturing assembly of a glass cathode ray picture tube for use in a projection television system, said tube including a funnel with a reference line and a circular face panel with a window for receiving a rectangular imaging screen, a method of forming said tube for alignment in said system, comprising:
    molding identical pairs of two substantially radially oriented embossments on said funnel;

    centering said pairs on, and azimuthally spacing said pairs one hundred and eighty degrees apart on a diametrical line oriented about forty-five degrees in counter-clockwise rotation with respect to the minor axis of said screen, as viewed from the funnel end of said tube;

    locating said embossments about 1.146 inch from said reference line;

    forming each of said embossments to be about 0.390 inch in length, and about 0.118 inch in heighth and width;

    spacing each embossment from its counterpart about 0.116 inch;

    beveling the ends of said embossments at an angle of about forth-five degrees into said funnel;

    such that said pairs of embossments provide for proper rotational alignment of said tube in said system.

    The present invention relates to cathode ray tubes for projection television systems. More particularly, the invention relates to means and method for conveniently and precisely aligning cathode ray tubes in projection television systems during manufacture and maintenance.

    Precision aligning of projection tubes is essential in projection television systems. The television image that is electron-formed on the cathodoluminescent screen is projected a considerable distance onto a viewing screen and enlarged several times in the process. As a result, any appreciable error in alignment of a projection tube is similarly enlarged and amplified in the translation. Also, three discrete projection tubes are commonly used in a color system, and the images projected must appear in precise coincidence on the screen. Any appreciable error in the relative alignment of one or more of the tubes is amplified in projection, resulting in a degraded image on the screen.

    A focus coil (20) is adjustably retained around the neck (12c) of a cathode
    ray tube (12) inside a shield (14). An alignment apparatus (62) includes a
    ring (64) which is movable with five degrees of freedom and clamps onto
    the coil (20) through holes (14j) formed through the shield (14). The tube
    (12) and shield (14) are held stationary, while the ring (64) and thereby
    the coil (20) are moved to align the coil (20) relative to the tube (12)
    in accordance with electrical alignment test signals applied to the tube
    (12). A **** shell (66) which is generally coaxially disposed between the
    shield (14) and ring (64) includes a plurality of arcuate segments (66a)
    which are hinged together at their ends, and have pins (66b) extending
    radially inwardly therefrom for clamping engagement with the coil (20). A
    screw (70) extends inwardly from the ring (64) to clamp the **** shell
    (66) between its inner end and a radially opposed portion (72) of the
    inner surface of the ring (64). A sleeve (40) removably fixes the coil
    (20) to the neck (12c) of the tube (12), and includes a plurality of
    resilient fingers (56) which are movable into and out of locking
    engagement with the neck (12c). The sleeve (40) is clamped to the neck
    (12c) and, after alignment of the coil (20) to the tube (12), the coil
    (20) is fixed to the sleeve (40) using an adhesive.

    If you mean fuzzy as in out of focus, then just adjust the focus. Top one of the two controls on the flyback transformer

I'm assuming you're referring to the two convergence ICs? If the set powers up you don't likely have a power supply problem. If it's just a convergence problem you're in the right area replacing the ICs.
Moving the set may be a key here but the picture tubes would not likely get out of whack that far unless it was handled very roughly. If it is a convergence problem (red, green and blue not lining up properly) and you've run through the convergence setup in the customer menu to no avail, and the problem just started after the set was moved I'd say more than likely you're dealing with a bad solder connection somewhere in the convergence circuit. Double check all resistors around the convergence ICs, they run hot in normal operation making them prone to becoming loose. There's also the DCU, the digital box (silver covered box near convergence ics that control the convergence signals to the ics) which can have loose connections where it's soldered to the main board or have loose connections internally.
If the problem is something other that what I'm guessing, please advise.
You have not mentioned what the symptoms are, this would be helpful.

Hi,

You need to measure continuity across the fuse or circuit protector like it was a short. Full meter deflection or on a digital meter, zero or close to it. If it goes to OL or a very high resistance, the fuse is bad or considered open.

And the convergence ICs that you have changed may not be suitable for your model....
For reference i am giving the compatible convergence ICs for your model.....

This can ba a misalign tube, so I suggest you to check the laignment of the tube then after that check if you still have the same problem...

My 50" Toshiba has a color problem!!!


Ur convergence is dead.Must replaced the 2 Convergence ICS and all it resistors.By replacing these 2 convergence ICS well solved these problems colors misalign, 3D double pictures,blurry pictures.The shop will cost U $300 for parts and labors.
