Question about Computers & Internet
How do I get my UM175 verizon aircard working on my Macbook Air without the access manager software/
This solution is verified with 10.5.6
You kinda need VZ Access but only for the activiation of the modem.
1. Download VZAccess for your mac and activate your modem, just connect once with it. It will go through and activate your modem. You only have to do this once. 2. Uninstall VZAccess, I believe it is in the Help Menu of the application itself. 3. Reboot you computer. 4. Plug in your Um175, go to System Preferences/Network and if it asks you to add the Pantech USB Modem say yes, may require password. 5. Select the Pantech USB Modem and enter the following: configuration: default
Telephone Number: #777
Account Number 10digit telephone number plus vzw3g.com, ie: firstname.lastname@example.org
6. click on Advanced 7. under the Modem Tab: Vendor: Sierra
Check Enable Error correction and compression in modem
Dial Mode: Ignore Dial Tone when Dialing
Click Ok then Apply and your Modem should not be setup without VZAccess Software installed.

I was having bad problems with this device, I installed the VZ manager just like the solution said but the error I encountered was verizon charging me for the program after the trial period was over and the device never connected to the internet. If this has happened to you, just remember that this is some sort of malware. I called Apple and a service rep helped me through my problem. I'm not saying that this was my only alternative but I was so frustrated with it, and the knowledge i receivd from them was very helpful. So without further adue, Here's what I did. First I uninstalled the VZ manager, Second thing I did was backup my MAC to another drive, The third thing was to downgrade to Snow leopard because that is what my system came with. Here is a guide. My problem was the device was not recognized by OS X Lion. Apple informed me that the update for this issue will be posted in the near future (no exact dates). After all was done, I inserted the Pantech modem UM175 and followed the device instructions for installiation. Everything went smooth, (in OS X Lion the device never showed the Pantech Modem) this is why I had to downgrade my system. The last thing you need to do is restore from the backup. Now your system should be just as it was before, and the Pantech Modem will show in the network connections. You need to manually input the settings for the device through the carrier you purchased it from. Now you should be able to connect through your settings. (YOU DON'T NEED TO CONNECT THROUGH THE QUICKLINK MOBILE). This whole process only took me 30 minuates to complete. (NOTE: The device simply says OS X 10.4 and greater, This is NOT TRUE, I was running 10.7.0 and was not successful in installing it). I hope this information helps all, Its free because I have already paid for it. Wish you well
