Hi louanne,

If your modem/router was provided by your internet service provider (ISP) you may check the configuration with them. Your modem/router wireless capabilities can be disabled by accessing the device. You should be able to get the IP address, default gateway and the username and the administrator password. Your computer should be hardwire to the modem to get the ip address or the default gateway.

regards,

jeff

I have a 4100. Can it be used wireless?

This modem that you have don;t have a wireless capability, but if you like to have a wireless network using this modem you need to get a wireless router that will be connected to the modem and the wireless router will be the one that is going to be transmitting the wireless signal for your wireless computers.

You can go and get a wireless broadband router from this manufacturer Linksys, Netgear , Belkin and Dlink , they make a good wireless router that can be use with your modem.

My wireless capability is turned off and i don't know how to turn it on.

Make sure the wireless switch on it is ON. Then press and hold "Fn" key and press "F5" (this enables/disables wireless capability of a computer) and try to detect wireless networks.

How do i change from having a wire to the modem to wireless

Hello,

Thank you for using Fixya!

In order to go wireless you need to know if you model has wireless capability (ask your Internet provider or from who you purchase the modem). If the modem does not have that capability then get a wireless access point or wireless router (I suggest a wireless router so you can have multiple computer connected to the internet). There are lots of brands out there namely, Linksys, Netgear, D-link or Belkin.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

How to install. netopia wireless ubs adapter. I have a compaq presario cq50 and my wireless capability is out. what should i do ? attach the wireless ubs adapter or just have the laptop looked at?

well, if you have a USB adapter, it should resolve the issue, but having the machine looked at might help, too. It could be as simple as the wireless modem being disabled, or something as bad as the same being damaged, though that's not as likely.

Can this modem work on a gateway laptop?

No... wait...

Do youe a dial-up service? or do you have a cable network?
This modem is for a cable system, like Comcast or Time Warner.

If you need a dial-up modem like the one in your laptop, then obtain a USB modem from Best Buy, Fry's, Office MAX/Depot:
like a "Zoom" or "SupraMax" or "US Robotics" brand, 56K v.92 modem.

For Serge : Over here one more question arise that why would I need router, when every thing available in DSL modem like Wireless connectivity, router and main feature is modem,so I can skip the linksys...

Depending on the make and model of your modem that you are referring to will determine if it has routing capabilities as well as wireless etc.

If so then getting another router that has wireless and other options is a bit pointless unless you are suffering from problems or you want to get it to replace it.

I did this myself ( replaced an old router that I got from my internet service provider ) due to the one they supplied being rubbish hence why I got / replaced there router with a netgear / or linksys one ( possibly draytek )

If the modem you refer to does the routing , wireless etc then yes you can get a switch ( however many ports you want ) and connect the router / modem to the internet and have one of the network ports ( the LAN one not the WAN one ) conencted to the switch and then connect all your other devices via the switch with network cables cat 5e or cat 6 ( cat 5e will suffice ) as there is no real need for cat 6 network cables ).

Am guessing the network cables will be UTP category.

If you post back with make and model of your modem - you or anyone else on here should be able to find out if it has the capabilities you mention - which I am guessing is correct otherwise you wouldnt of mentioned it.

The only other reason for maybe swapping the current modem for a linksys or other make of router would be because you wanted a faster wireless connection and if your current modem only supports wireless G and you wanted N then you would either get a new router as you suggested or just get a Pre N wireless access point and disable the wireless on your current modem / router and just use the wireless access point for wireless.

My phone modle is Samsung E250.i want connect the internet using it.my laptop has a modem and i hope my phone use a modem.i connecting the internet it's show two modems.i want to know my phone Serial...

your phone serves as a modem already, just disable the built-in modem of your laptop. then if your phone comes with an installation CD like the nokia models, then you can set it up to be a modem for your laptop, but then you should know if your CP service provider are capable with this, like GPRS, HSDPA, and other wireless protocols. and last, you should have alot of loads for your CP, hehehehe

What is LiteOn Modem DP/N 0H9379. Is this a wireless modem?

It's just a regular modem, LiteOn is name brand, just like Conexant. Also, modems are used for dialing on a land line, and must be connected or hardwired to a land line, there is no such thing as a wireless modem, however there are modems that can communicate with computers through wireless receivers, but they are not considered wireless modems, they're considered and called wireless capable modems. These are generally found in high end office fax machines.
