Question about Amana NDG7800AW Gas Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer won't heat

We purchased this dryer from an individual. We converted to LP from natural using 49572 conversion. The book says to use 649P3, but was told that it didn't matter. The dryer worked for a couple of days but now won't heat up. Could it be from the conversion kit or something else. We checked the gas and there is gas going to it.

Yes I can see the glow of the igniter. I just ordered a coil kit (gas valve) so I am going to try that. Another site said that maybe the problem..Ye I'm sure there is gas going to it. I will let you know if this works. Thanks

Hello tfulton1963,
The fact that it worked for 3 days and then failed suggests that it is probably something else. You may have a non-resttable thermal fuse that opened or the gas valve itself isn't functioning. Can you see the glow of the igniter when it starts? Are you sure the burner is getting gas from the inlet valve?
These are the basic components to investigate.. Let me know the outcome of these checks and we can get you going again if none of these work.. Regards

The coil kit when energized will open the valve to allow gas to the burner so that's a good place to start.. Hope that works for you.. will keep an eye out for your updates,,,,

Al you need to get is a natural gas conversion kit for your dryer. Use your model number and look up a list of spares for your machine. Go down the list till you get to the conversion kits and get the one from LP to Nat of course, something like this one.

Converting your Natural Gas Dryer to Lp is taking it from a lower BTU gas "Natural" to a higher BTU "LP" value. The orfice on a LP gas valve is smaller because you dont need as much gas to make the same amount of heat. make sure you change the orifice. The little plug goes in the regulator of the gas valve, changing the valve from a low gas pressure Natural to a Higher Pressure LP.

If the kit doesnt look right, did you get the correct one?

Maybe you should call you LP provider they can do the conversion for you.
