Looooooong time to load and start playing MP3s

It takes about 5 minutes to load and start playing sd card MP3s on my Zumo 550. I removed all the songs from the hard drive that came with the GPS. Should I put MP3s back on the hard drive. after the MP3s start playing all is fine.

Hmmm, the Zumo doesn't have a harddrive, it's flash memory. The best place to store mp3's is on a fast SD card, and don't get the biggest size and cram it full, I had like 100 mp3's on a card adding up to almost 450 mins of music, started up without a problem. Not as fast but pretty snappy!

Can't xfer whole cd albums to zumo 550 sd card, only song lists.

The CD songs are in *.wav format and have to be converted to MP3's to be usable. Extract the CD audio to MP3 files (WINAMP will do this and it's free or use your own tool) then copy the files to the SD card using windows explorer.

Formating the Zumo 550 GPS

Hi, I had a very similar problem with my Zumo 550. It turned out to be the SD card. I had an 8gb card full of MP3 tracks and the unit indexes them before working properly.

I removed the SD card all was well again

Use the allen wrench to remove the battery. Let stand for 5 minutes and replace the battery. It should start fine. Mine has done this 3 times since I purchased it.

Long recognition Time When using 4G SDHC (Scan disk, formatted Fat32) full of music

Are you sure none of these files is corrupt? My best results were with fixed bit rate 128 bit MP3's and I had 4 gigs of them on an sd card. There have been issues with MP3's, maybe you need a firmware update, use the Garmin webupdater here http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp

How do you load maps? and are these Garmin maps. I try to keep the Zumo original and use an SD card for extra maps. Did you try this yet? And if you are using SD cards, try a different brand/quality. I had some lockups with crappy budget cards. Kingston, Sandisk and some other A brands work fine!
