Reinstalling Windows Thanks! You just wrote, "just format the pc and reinstall the new copy of windows xp.thanks." How do I format the pc and reinstall? Do I insert the disk after the computer boots into Windows, or do I interrupt Windows and boot from the BIOS setup, then format and reinstall?

Can i format my HD on an external bases with my laptop, then install it back into my pc. my hard drive crashed and i need to get it to boot. i dont have the boot disk

Technically, YES, the hard drive can be formatted as an external (with the appropriate equipment) on your laptop (if there are still files on it, you may even be able to extract them from it) but it still won't be bootable because it does not have an operating system on it.

That would be the part where you need the recovery disc. Windows setup programs from these boot discs already have the format utility so if there aren't any files to extract from the drive, you can skip to reinstalling Windows on the desktop and formatting it in the process.

Bottom line is that you need a Windows installation disc to make the hard drive bootable again, regardless of where you format it.

After reinstalling/installing an Operating System you can lose the Audio Drivers or sometimes they just corrupt.. Try reinstalling the Audio Drivers from the disk provide with your P.C./Laptop. If you no longer have the disk just visit the website of the makers of your P.C./Laptop or Motherboard and download the Audio Drivers from there, after that install them.
Thumbs up please if this works for you, thanks.

Reinstalling xp will not take my product key

If you are reinstalling Windows XP from a NON-DELL disc, and trying to use the Dell OEM product key, it will not work.
OEM versions of Windows have a modified precopy2.cab and a retail version of XP will not validate the OED product key from the chassis. This is because the OEM media for Dell has a precopy2.cab that pre-loads the product key when the system is BOOTED to the OEM media (It also pre-activates the OS)
Your choices at the point are:
  1. Re-install the OS from a Dell OEM CD (They can be purchased on EBay for around $20, and only work on Dell Systems)
  2. Purchase a valid Retail Key from Microsoft

Reset startup password satellite 305 toshiba

if its the bios you are talking about then you have to take out the CMOS battery and put is again password will be cracked but if its windows password you are talking about then you will require windows cd to reset or remove the password, first boot with cd and you get option to press any key to boot with cd ,press any key now windows will start copying files ,dont worry we are not reinstalling windows so keep up the installation process till you get the screen which says installing devices and windows time will be approx. 39 minutes to complete installation
quickly press Shift key+F10 this combination will stop windows installation and new window will pop that gives you option to reset and remove password.
Now do as you like and remove windows cd ,
It is the best possible solution you may find in all of cyberspace ,no harm to computer is done ,i hope you will be happy to use this technique and help others as well.

thanks and regards
