Steve, In this case I would replace the Hard drive. But, since you probably don't have spare HDD's lying around.. do you atleast have the Software version? Some CD that came with it hopefully. If you do, then you may be able to stay alive here. Once your system boots to the user screen.. press + and repeat key at the same time.. "secret" menu now. ONLY IF YOU HAVE SOFTWARE TO INSTALL!! Select NAND FLASH FORMAT.. The unit will shut down after formatting. start up your software installer on computer. plug usb in.. and power on unit. This fix isn't %100, but it's the best shot you have. Otherwise you've gotta send it down here to Texas (where magellan repair is) and pay for the new hard drive. OR.. you could call customer service and see what they have to say. you'll probably be transferred to overseas.. --good luck with that -Dan

SOURCE: RoadMate 700/760 Version 6 update maps are over a year old!!

THE CURE for this problem is NEVER BUY Magellan again!!

After paying over £800 for an early Roadmate 700 (which failed and was replaced by a failed/recon version) then to have problems with software.. now having waited a year to get map update and version 6 firmware I find it doesn't give me Magellan Tools which was promised by Magellan Support.

After several mail queries and important qustions remaining unanswered I am buying a Tomtom Go 720T which will do all the updates automatically via a cradle linked to my PV/Internet.

NEVER EVER AGAIN a damned Magellan - great when it works but it's easier to get blood from a stone than good support from Magellan.

map file will not boot. push the RESET button with the bent end of a paperclip located on the right side of the unit next to the power supply input.

Power unit up from a completely off state. While it's starting up, hold the Mute and Menu buttons down the entire time. It will start up, then flash. As soon as you see the flash let go of the Mute and Menu buttons. Then, as soon as the lights come on around the unit quickly press and hold the Mute and Menu buttons again. The unit will boot into the Windows CE operating system. You then double click on My Device and delete HDD3 or, if you have a SD card in the slot, cut and paste the HDD3 to the SD card. Power the unit off holding the power button down for 7-10 seconds. Take out the SD card, if you have one in, then power up the unit. It should restart likes it's fresh from the factory. When the unit is off, can you see a line where the screen is possibly cracked? look close. If you can your LCD is busted and it needs to be replaced. Is the sound working fine? Will respond after answers.

How to hard reset magellan 700

Hussam.. I believe the newest software upgrade you can get for the 700 is version 4.32 which is the same version used on the 760's. The maps are stored on the hard drive, so I do not think a reset will help but here is how it's done. 1. At the user select menu (first screen to appear after initial turn on) hold down the zoom out key (-) and the repeat button (on top of your unit). 2. Once at the "secret" menu, select reset user data. This will reset all of your personal information from the unit. All of your POI's will be deleted as well as your user name (which you can re-create of course) 3. Your unit will re-boot automatically and that's how you reset your unit. Like I said though, I do not think this will revive your maps. If you have the maps on a DVD-CD then you can reload them that way, otherwise send it to the Fort Worth, Tx repair center and they have the proper program to load data directly to the hard drive. Good luck! -Daniel
