Starts fine then stalls, I would check the belt, gear case and also for a seized pump bearing. Pull the machine out and remove the access panel with a 5/16 socket and put it into spin, try to watch as you start the cycle. Then if you don't see any problems tilt the machine back and examine the belt for wear, glazing, cracks and rotate the belt to find any frozen items, gear case and pump.

My MayTag Atlantis washer will not spin or drain the water out, when it gets to the rinse cycle or spin cycle , it just makes a buzzing or clicking noise.

The brake mechanism is not releasing properly. The noise your hearing is the motor trying to move but can't. Do not continue to operate the washer or you will burn out the motor...an expensive replacement. See instructions for my other solutions.

Maytag atlantis mav6000

sounds like the carbon brushes need replacing in the motor, they can cause a screeching sound as they wear down.

Maytag Atlantis shut down during rinse cycle.

Contacted a local repair shop. They told me that if I got it spinning again, the motor was most likely ok. It is protected by a thermal switch that turns it off when it begins to overheat. The smell was to be expected as it was overheating; the difficutly restarting was because it hadn't cooled off enough yet. We have now used it a few times for small loads. Still getting a smell, but the wash cycle is completing ok.
