This is an optiom in the setup. If you knw the password and wish toi disable it, here are the two methods for access the BIOD Setup Screen

  • F2 key method: Turn the computer on. If you see an invitation to press the F2 key to enter Setup, do so. The Setup screen will appear.

  • Esc key method: Turn the computer on. If you do not see a prompt to press the F2 key, then immediately press and hold the Esc key for three seconds, and then release it. When prompted to, press the F1 key. The Setup screen will appear.

I am confused as to whether you are getting a BIOS password message when you first turn on the unit, or whether you are getting a HDD password when the operating system starts, so I will suggest methods to get around both.

BIOS Password:

The easist solution is to look for a "password removal tool" which plugs into the parallel port on the computer. You may be able to find one on one of the internet auction sites. Generally, you plug the device into the port, then turn on the computer, turning it back off after a few moments, but here is a link that demonstates some alternative methods, including using "keydisk.exe", a password removal program which fits on a floppy disk.

http://www.laptop-repair.info/toshiba_bios_password.html

One source for the keydisk program is:

http://www.s2services.com/bioscmospasswordfreeware.htm

Look for "Name - KeyDisk for Toshiba" about halfway down the page.

I can't garuntee this will work because I don't have a Toshiba to test it on.

Good luck!

If your operating system goes to the start screen, but then asks for a password, you may need to obtain a "password reset disk".

There are many available on auction sites for just a few dollars, but I would try entering the computer model number as a password, as I have found that to be a fairly common trick people use so they don't have to remember the p-word since it is usually on the manufacturers' sticker on the back or bottom of the computer.

    Good luck!

You must have it or you couldn't access the drive. to remove the hdd or power up password you need to enter the bios setup and remove them there or disable them it depends on how the bios is wriiten.

there's only one problem with these solutions. IF and i say if the toshibas are like ibm machines, if its a supervisor password, it may well be stored in a chip on the mother board and they can be bypassed but it's not all that easy. If it's a hdd password, you replace the drive as IBM openly states they cannot bypass a hdd password.. good luck

How to disable Hard drive password

Did you clear your BIOS to rid yourself of the bios password first? Just making sure you are really looking for the hdd password (which you set while setting the BIOS password I assume) There are some tools out there to help you remove/rest the hdd password but lets be sure that's what you need to do first. Be warned, the tools don't always work and unless you remember the password you might be looking at complete data loss and a new hard drive.

HDD passwords are designed to be 100% secure and there is nothing available to reset or remove the HDD password whether the password failure is caused by human error or HDD defect.
Users must ensure they have regular backups.Unfortunately,a new HDD will be required and is not covered by the standard warranty.

After boot, appears ENTER PRIMARY MASTER HDD USER Password i need the password @ solution to boot up my lappy... thanks

How Do I Change the Primary Master HDD User Password?

Prior to loading an operating system, your computer will first execute the BIOS program. The BIOS has an extra password feature, called the hard disk drive (HDD) user password, that can't be bypassed and provides a layer of defense to keep your data secure. To change an existing HDD user password you will have to load the BIOS menu, which is only accessible during the computer's operating system reboot procedure.

Instructions

1. Close any windows that are currently open on your computer. Eject any discs inserted into the optical drive and disconnect any peripheral USB devices.

2. Open the "Start" menu and select "Shut Down." Turn on your computer once the operating system finishes shutting down.

3. Press the key your computer uses to load the BIOS menu. For example, with Dell computers tap "F2" when the "Press F2 for Setup" option appears. Press the "Access IBM" key on IBM laptops or "F10" on HP desktops.

4. Navigate to the BIOS tab that contains the HDD password option, which will usually be the "Security" tab. Some computer manufactures instead include the password option in the "Advanced" tab.

5. Scroll down to the option labeled either "User Password" or "BIOS lock" and hit "Enter." Type the current master HDD user password when the prompt appears and press "Enter."

6. Input a new HDD user password and hit "Enter" again. Navigate to the BIOS tab labeled "Exit" or something similar.

7. Move over to the "Save and Exit" entry and press "Enter." Select "Yes" and tap "Enter."

Hdd password pops up and hasn't been setup to ask for it. After trying several words it pops up Hdd error {06801]

Hi,
Thank you for contacting Fixya. This is Anil.
I understand that whenever you turn ON the computer it pops for HDD password.

It appears that someone has set an HDD password on your computer. Inorder to reset it please follow the steps mentioned below:
If you have forgot BIOS/HDD password then you have to reset CMOS jumper setting. Please follow the below steps: Open the Laptop back panel. Locate the CMOS battrey, remove it & then with the help of a screw driver keep on pressing the terminal inside it and turn ON the computer for 10 secs and Turn Off (make sure you keep on pressing the terminal with a screwdriver while turning ON). It will short the BIOS setting. Now, fix the CMOS battrey & restart the computer. This will take care of the issue.

I believe the above resolution should resolve the issue, however, if the issue still persists, please contact us. We will be glad to help you.
Thank you. Have Great Day.

Regards,
Anil.B.R

Bypass HDD password

From what I understand, the hard drive can be set with a password so the drive can't be used in any other computer or even opened if stolen. It is different from windows or bios passwords, and no password unlocker can open it.

You need to call the manufactor of the pc, and have all the information about the computer handy so it can be proven you are the legal owner. They are the only ones that I know of that might be able to reset or disable the HD password.
