Hi, I have a dell xps product red, was working well, shut down last evening and now when i press the power on there is no noise of any sort and the only light which illuminates is the monitor screen light....

Check that the power cord is plugged into the wall and the computer. If you're using a power strip, double check that it is plugged into the wall, and turned on as well.
If you still get no response from the machine, open the case and look for spinning fans or lights from the motherboard when you press the power button. Generally, a bad power supply is going to still allow your power button to blink amber warning, as a pass through from the power cord.

Gx270 tower mother board amber LED solid on

If the fan is not spinning this can be the issue ...but it can also be the motherboard itself ..if you have the possibility try to change the fan ..cause if it fails to start the computer will also fail cause the cpu it will shut down the system instantly if it has no cooler working ..(gets to the shut down temperature in one sec or so ) If it seams that it is trying to start ..but , like I said , it shuts down ..just try to change the fan ...but it may be a issue with the power supply or the motherboard as well...

Push power button and the power light turns amber and lights up then shuts off. the light in back of the computer is light green and it starts to turn on then dies

The fact that ity is trying to start and shuts off after ..it seams that it is the CPU fan to blame ...If the fan fails to start the CPU will turn the computer down instantly due to the temperature limit ..(in 1 or 2 sec ) ..
so ...open it up ..and see if the fan is spinning ...on start ..and if it is not ...check the connection with the board or replace it ..
(by the way ..this may also be a CPU failure ..and need another one ) ..

My pc is not turning on (all the light does is blink orange)

Woops -the blinking amber light of doom is a common fault on dells -
usually a solid amber is the Power supply while a blinking one indicates Motherboard problems. If machine is still under warranty dell will replace it.
If not then it will cost you to have them replaced.

No sync means no video signal to the monitor. The rest sounds like a corrupted OS. This could be from a number of reasons, including a virus. If you have NORTON or MacAfee, Your open to a lot of attacks. Get AVG free, and use Mozilla instead of IE.
The reason the fans come on full speed is the MB senses a high temp on the CPU, until the bios fan control takes over after POST. This is normal on most systems.

The power light keeps flashing orange

I had my Optiplex GX520 at work shut down abruptly every time I turned it on it in the morning. This would always happen within the first 30 minutes. I would then get the flashing amber light. After starting the PC again, it would stay on all day (over 8 hours) without shutting down again. I found that the power supply was over-heating.

Two things need to be done. First, in order to get the amber light to stop flashing, un-plug the computer from the wall for 30 seconds then plug it back in. OR hold down the power button for 10 seconds or so. The light should stop flashing. Then press the power button again and the PC should start.

But why did it abruptly shut down in the first place? The power supply has a fan-speed-control circuit in it to keep it running slow and quiet when the power supply is cool. It gives the power supply lower voltage when the power supply is cold and higher voltage as the power supply gets warmer. This circuit either is not working correctly or the fan getting sticky over the years and needing more voltage to get it moving when it is cold. I found that the fan was not starting at all and causing the power supply to over-heat.

To keep the fan moving at full speed, I cut the wire to it and wired it to the +12v output directly. Not the fan goes at full speed all the time. And yes, it is nosier. But at work it doesn’t matter.

The best solution would be to just get another power supply from Dell if possible. Or buy a +12v, 70mm fan from Digi-Key and replace the original.
