Need to Replace Escutcheon on Control Panel of Kenmore HE3t

I have Kenmore washer HE3t, model 11042922201. I want to replace the cracked escutcheon (cover) of the control panel. The part number is 8181676. How does the part come off? Do I have to remove the entire control panel? The escutcheon has a slot on the bottom which I thought was access to a release latch, but I can't feel a latch in there.
