Question about PC Desktops

The touch pad mouse cursor on my Dell Inspiron 4000 ME/OS IE6 has become overly sensitive and needs resetting. I looked everywhere to find how to do this. The problems are several: placing the cursor on the site to open it without clicking will open the site, also moving the cursor over info will hightlight the info without clicking, sites that I do not want to open may open because the cursor ran over the web sites, news sites, ads, etc. The problem occurred when I had serious problems when Earthlink(ISP) changed their Home page and settings. Of course, they said it was my PC"s problem. I had no antivirus or firewall on because of difficulty finding one that worked with ME. Slowly, the problems were being corrected. Earthlink finally sent me the CD Norton Internet security for ME and insisted that I install it immediately and that all problems would be resolved. I did and my PC developed very serious problems:(1) I could no longer access Earthlink email or hotmail email, (2)nor could I access any security sites either over the web, emails, or my accounts,(3) nor could I update any programs (4)and I could not get Nortaon Removal Tool sent because I could not access the email. Finally after 2 months and many calls, a master tech from Earthlink knew how to override the email problems and then sent me the link to Norton Removal Tool. I removed the software right away, and the above problems went away. Meanwhile Earthlink corrected their settings, but my PC was left with several readjustment issues. Could you help me with touch pad mouse cursor issue? Also the auto disconnect idle screen comes up saying that your PC willl be disconnected from the internet in so many seconds . Do you want to disconnect? How do I reset this to off? It is very annoying and the PC will disconnect in the middle of a email letter that I am typing orreading info on web, etc. Thank you Marilee marileekernis@hotmail.com

Thank you all for your quick response to my cursor problem. daisyq31 suggestion worked. Thankfully I did not have to go any farther.

Could you tell me how to uninstall Macromedia Flash Player 8.022. On 9/28, I downloaded it for free from Brothersoft.com site; On 9/29 I found out that all the adobe/ Macromedia Flash Players v. 8.024 and earlier have serious securitity vulnerabilities and they are difficult to uninstall. I have had 5 correspondence with Brothersoft customer service as to how to do this. They would only send me a product info descriptions on how the product works and finally an add/remove instruction. I know how to do this. I believe it is interfering with the Internet Explorer functions for I often receive a screen saying THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE INTERNET EXPLORE AND YOUR PC NEEDS TO SHUT DOWN AND RESTART.The screen is frozen.I try to shutdown through SHUTDOWN, a WAIT AND END TASK screen appears. If the PC won't do this , I either CLOSE BY POWERING OFF OR CRTL+ALT+DELETE. I WOULLD LIKE TO LOAD FLASH PLAYER 9 which supposedly not a problem with Internet Explore.. Does my PC need ACTIVEX or ACTIVEX CONTROL? I thilnk EARTHLIINK (ISP) may have deleted it. HOW CAN I FIND IT? I have looked, but I probably don't know how. My PC is DELL Inspiron 4000 with P3 IE6 and standard dial-up connection.Thank you, MarileeK marileekernis@hotmail.com

Let me know if you've already tried this:
For your mouse, go to "Control Panel" and click on the mouse icon. Click on the "Touch Pad" tab. Make sure the "Tap off when typing" box IS checked. Click the "touch sensitivity" button and adjust to "low". Click "apply" and "ok". If you've already done this let me know.

As far as your connection, I understand you have earthlink? What type of connection/modem do you have? With this information I can help

I am glad that I could be of assistance! To uninstall Macromedia, follow this link: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flash...

The problem may have come from your security settings. After you have uninstalled it, If you want to try to reinstall, first Check to see if your security is at the most set on "medium". Also, there may have been previous versions that needed to be uninstalled prior to installing the updated version. Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks

Marilee:

This issue can occur because of one of the below possibilities.

These may vary depending upon the type of mouse you have connected to the computer.

Mouse is not clean.
Optical portion of mouse is blocked.
Moisture or other material on finger.

Solution:

Mouse is not clean
Users who have an optical mechanical mouse (most common mouse for desktop computers) are likely experiencing erratic behavior because the mouse is not clean or is dirty. Information on how to clean the mouse can be found on our cleaning page.

Optical portion of mouse is blocked
Users who have an optical mouse are likely experiencing erratic behavior because a portion of the optical eye is blocked. Most commonly this is caused by a hair.

Moisture or other material on finger
Users who are using a touchpad may experience erratic behavior because of moisture or other material on the finger such as lotion.

Mouse has been cleaned and still has problems

If cleaning the touchpad not fix the problem you can Go to your manufacturer website (dell) and download your touch pad mouse controller and reinstall that again in your computer.

Or try using and external mouse till you can fix the problem.

Please don't forge to rate my help! Thank you :-)

Try uninstalling the drivers for the mouse first, then reboot to see if that works. Don't worry, the drivers will reinstall automatically upon reboot.

Hope this helps. :)

I have a dell inspiron 2200 laptop. The touch pad stopped working, thus I had to get an external mouse. How do I fix the touch pad to work again????

You probably just need to reinstall the touchpad drivers. First, find the Dell Service Tag # (usually on the bottom of the laptop). Go to www.dell.com - near the bottom middle click the link under Support called "Drivers and Downloads". Click "Enter a Tag" and enter your Service Tag #. On the next page, select your Operating System and down below you will see a section for Input Device Drivers (probably a Synaptics driver). Download and install that driver and you should be able to use your touchpad again. Let me know if this helps. Thanks.

Bluetooth keyboard and mouse not working with computer

Normal 0 Press the Receiver button (and the lights will start flashing.
Then if the Keyboard isn't working, press the small RESET/CONNECT button on the back of the board to connect the keyboard to the receiver.

If the MOUSE isn’t working, push the small RESET/CONNECT button on the back of the mouse to connect to the receiver. Then they should work okay.
Hope this helps. Bud

Your touch pad drivers need to be installed. Power off the laptop. Install an external mouse, power back on and install drivers. When finished, power down, remove the external mouse and reboot.

Mouse Sensitivity Issue

If your laptop is Vista, this page should have a download for a Vista touchpad driver:

http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/lenovo/drivers/2412/50.html

If it's an XP laptop, try this link:

http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/lenovo/drivers/2412/313.html

If one of them works, let me know which one and rate appropriately. If neither of them do, we'll try something else.

Thanks.

How can I disengage the extremely sensitive touch pad on my Gateway notepad T-6321.c I find that almost every time I try to input data or write a message, if I even barely touch the touch pad by accident,...

Hello my name is Jei and I hope this helps you out.

Some touchpads have a button located above them. Usualy a small bar. This turns the pad on and off.

Otherwise you may be able to disable the touchpad in the bios. (Consult manual for specific instructions)

Another way is to place a thick piece of paper or cardboard over the touchpad area and securing it with clear tape or a nice sticker.

Alternative methods include taking the computer apart and disconnecting the touch pad, but this should only be done by someone who understands who a laptop comes apart and has the space and tools to do it properly.

Suddenly the cursor moves back to a previous line and continues typing making a joke of what I'pingm typing (see it just did it)

make sure the mouse cursor is further down the page from where you are typing. If your text continues over the arrow of the cursor and any static electricity or touch is detected by the glide pad of a laptop or S.E. from a mouse it will move the text cursor to where the mouse cursor is.

This is a continual problem with sensitive computers.

sorry there is no permanent "FIX"

Touchpad problem on VAIO laptop

Have you tried a regular mouse another (USB) input? You may be able to carefully disassemble the pad and clean with a electronic cleaner fluid. Use a light touch with the membrane. If the mouse behaves the same, look at you system and uninstall / reinstall the driver. The oils on your fingers can gum up the surface and make it less sensitive to the electrostatic properties that make a touch pad operate.
