Question about GE (JASHO97748) (3 Pack) Headset

2 Answers

I just bought a GE Portable headset with detachable MIC

I do not know how to get it to work. I have a HP Pavilion. I have the new VISTA software. I cannot get the microphone wizard. Do I need a updated driver? MY PC says that I have a Realteck '97. That is old.
What do I do.?

I had the same problem, but fixed it. All you have to do is:
(I have a Dell Laptop)
1. Go to the control panel
2. Go to the sounds, speech and audio devices
3. You are supposed to see the icon that belongs to your sound card (Mine is SigmaTel Audio), click on it
4. Activate the port where the microphone is connected, close
5. Configure your microphone as you normally would
6. It should work

Also using an HP Pavilion and Vista. However, if I plug the microphone directly into the port, it works. The problem is obviously in the headset itself.

The port is definitely activated, as my old mic worked fine.

I also have this headset, and finally have it workinging perfectly on my HP Pavilion with Vista. I had trouble using it with Skype. I uninstalled and reinstalled Skype. Then, when I opened Skype, the setup/test screen appeared that tests the speakers and microphone. The default microphone setting did not work. I changed it to "Integrated Microphone Array.." and all's well!

My hp pavilion dv6000 speakers and mic are not functioning even headset

Have you tried installing the correct sound drivers? If not, go to:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=3224050&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=1842153

Then select your current operating system and select your sound drivers. If that does not work, it might be the speakers and mic connector aren't connected properly onto your board, your speakers and mic are faulty or your on-board sound is completely faulty. In that case take it to your nearest Laptop Repair Shop. If its under warranty, take it back to the shop you bought it.

You can try going into device manager and find the device and remove it then reboot and let it reinstall the mic drivers. If that does not work try going to the HP site and see if a new driver is available and install it. The mic could have gone bad and you may have to buy an external mic.

Hi,

Don't think its the drivers, because you can hear audio.

Do you have your mic with your headset or separatedly? If with headset, maybe your headset has a physical switch where you can enable/disable mic (seen this feature on some Locitech headsets).

You can also check whether you have Mic muted in your audio control panel. Go to Control Panel, open Sounds and Devices and File - Properties if I remember correctly (sorry, I have Vista now) and put a check before Mic property to bring out the Mic volume level bar to see whether it's muted or not.

Hope this helps,
Tom

Portable Headset W/Detachable Mic

First, double click on the volume icon located in the system tray. If you do not see the volume control for Mic, then you will need to make it show up by going to Options --> Properties --> Check the box labeled Microphone --> Click Ok. You should now be able to see the volume control for the Mic. Make sure that this is not muted and the sound is turned up.

Second, you must have a sound card installed in your computer that supports microphones. Please check with your cards manufacturer or PC manufacturer to make sure.

Query regarding mic support in Windows Vista

Yes you do indeed need to have Vista Drivers, That said sometimes the XP drivers MAY work if they and the software are installed in XP Compatibility Mode. Vista has been a nightmare for us in the Computer repair industry... one can only hope that all driver issues are addressed in any service packs to come? I doubt it tho...It seems a case of out with the old and in with the new...wheather ya like it or not.
