Question about Epson Stylus CX5800F All-In-One InkJet Printer

11 Answers

Communicates with XP-PC, makes all the moves and sounds- nothing prints

My CX-5800 worked fine till now, then quit printing altogether. Changed to new ink cartridges, cleaned as much as I could get to, but nothing has helped. The printer makes all the moves, feeds paper thru, obeys pc commands, but the paper comes out blank. Can I DIY this printer fix?
I imagine that the ink supply to the printhead is plugged.
Thanks,

Solution suggestion #1 - reload the drivers - did not work. To further isolate the problem, I
installed the printer and CD installation disk on my laptop, with identical results: Blank sheet of paper comes out, just like it did with my desk-top set-up. So, now what?

  • RSpokas Oct 11, 2008

I have already told you that I have replaced all the ink cartriges with new ones. Please read all the comments I have submitted.

    R.Spokas

  • RSpokas Oct 11, 2008

    One more time:
All ink cartriges have been replaced with new ones.
The self cleaning operation has been performed ad nauseam times.
The printer drivers and installation was done on both my desk-top and lap-top computers with the same results - BLANK SHEET OF PAPER.
Now let me hear some serious solution possibilities.

  • RSpokas Oct 11, 2008

The Epson Customer Service people suggested that my described problem is beyond DIY possibilities, and I should consider replacement. I do not believe that this type of answer qualifies as a solution.

  • RSpokas Oct 12, 2008

SSC Service utility is useful for major printer users to speed up print time. As I explained, I have not lost control of the printer, just the ability to print. Replacing the printhead would cost $115-that is not a solution.Service manual for Epson CX5800F is not available. You have not told me how to remove the printhead from the printer, so that I could soak it.
So, are you going to tell me how to repair it or not?

  • RSpokas Oct 12, 2008

If you are suggesting that I have not removed the tape from the cartriges before installing them, you are insulting me.
    R.Spokas

  • RSpokas Oct 12, 2008

I have already determined that the printhead is the problem. I am looking for you to tell me how to remove it from the printer, clean/unplug it and reinstall it so the printer will work again.
    R.Spokas

  • RSpokas Oct 12, 2008

AsI stated before,I performed the nozzle check and printhead cleaning functions more than enough times, with no improvement. I am looking for one of you to tell me step-by-step
procedure for the removal, cleaning, and reinstallation of printhead. The service manual states that this is not a serviceable item, and does not expect people to do it.
I am trying to extend the operating life of this printer, and you people qarnot helping at all.
    R.Spokas

  • RSpokas Oct 12, 2008

    This is a solution?

  • RSpokas Oct 12, 2008

I have gone thru the complete de-installation and re-installation procedure twice. I also did it on two separate computers, one being my desk-top, and the other my laptop. All the results were the same - blank sheets coming out of the printer.
    R.Spokas
PS: one of your compatriots suggested this earlier.

  • RSpokas Oct 12, 2008

If you quit treating me like a moron, I will gladly quit the sarcasm. This is not getting my printer operational. By profession I am a retired Automotive Research engineer, and am quite familiar about things mechanical. The general advice so far has been to replace either the part, or the printer. Neither fits the "Repair" request. Not one of you has mentioned the function of the small hoses found in back, behind a small trapdoor, of thr printer. Since the ink cartrige carrier is not removable, I suspect that could be a port to clean/unplug the printhead. None of the drawings/pictures submitted show a printer anywhere close to mine.
    R.Spokas
PS I am sorry that you feel that I am wasting your time.

  • tl6868 Oct 19, 2008

My problem is identical, but I am using a Mac. I highly doubt it is a driver problem, because the same blank sheet presents even when using the display screen and key commands that are on the top of the printer.

You need to install New drivers.
Try updating your printer drivers:

Create a new folder on your desktop and name it newhpdrivers(substitute your manufacturer in new name). Un-intall printer and printer software completely. Go to manufacturers website and navigate to their drivers/downloads or support menu. Select your model, choose the relevant software and download to the new folder you created on your desktop. Power down your computer. Reconnect the printer to the computer and turn printer on. Windows will detect new hardware and ask if you have the manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files. Direct the wizard to your new software, follow the rest of the setup instructions and your done

Accept it or not, it is a hardware issue already. No DIY solution is available elsewhere when it comes to the printer shooting blanks.

Printhead cleaning will only waste your ink.

The issue you are facing is with the print head. I am sure you have already checked and done all the cleaning. Kindly check this link as it has the manual for your product.

Pleas see if you have done the printer head and nozzle cleaning in the prescribed way or not.

If even after following the steps you get the blank pages. I will say that its time to upgrade/change.

Hi,
Having worked with printers , for a long time ,I say the printer head is the source of the problem and it would be required to be replaced. But replacing the print head and paying for service would cost you more than buying yourself a new printer.
Companies donot keep spares or service home segment printers, that is the reason getting parts becomes tricky.

Thanks

You probably just need to reinstall drivers again.

probably you just need to reinstall drivers again.

    Do the following:

    • Unplug printer usb and printer power cable.

    • Go to control panel >> printers and other hardware >> installed printers.

    • Remove printer from printer list.

    • Reinstall driver and software from disk.

    • Connect back printer only after installing, or when asked from setup program.

    • Try printing.

If that does not work, or if you do not have the driver disk, and you need a download, let me know.

I will list here ALL the possible causes for blank paper coming out of printout:

1 Paper is quickly loaded and get pushed out blank. The printer is not really spending a long time in an attempt to print, paper is just loaded and ejected:

    • Driver problem - reinstall driver. Note that you must reinstall drivers before plugging in the printer.

    • Cable problem, try a different USB.

    • Printer control board defective, this is not an expensive printer, job and part will cost no less than $150, better to replace printer.
2 Paper is loaded inside the printer, and pass through slowly, like if the printer is printing, but no ink comes out from the print heads.

    • Bad cartridges, try a new set.

    • Clogged print heads, try cleaning procedure, on some model, the print heads can be removed and soaked in isopropyl alcohol overnight.

    • Faulty print heads, if the heads are not integrated with the cartridges, they can be replaced, cost for the part is $30/$40

    • Mechanic problem, repair cost no less than $100

    • Printer control board defective, this is not an expensive printer, job
and part will cost no less than $150, better to replace printer.
If you have been offered a replacement from factory, replace the unit.

Epson printers have a non-removable printhead. The printhead is located in the ink carriage.
On many epson the carriage is unlocked by moving from 1 to 3 blue or gray tab at the right side (watching from front) of the carriage, and on many models you also need to remove one or two screws.

See here : Epson Printhead Repair .:MK-STUFF.DE:.

and also here: Epson Print head replacement page.

The procedure is not much different from the one illustrated.

  • Ginko
    Ginko Oct 12, 2008

Regarding the cleaning procedure, you can leave the printhead in cleaning solution or isopropyl acohol overnight.
This procedure does not always work, as the solution normally does not penetrate inside the pipes getting to the printhead.
    See this website.

If you are sure the printhead is faulty, you can use a cartridge filled with distilled water, or better, with printer claner and use the cartridge to clean the printhead. See an example here: Print head cleaner,.

If you decide to replace the printhead contact Epson for the part: Printer Accessories - By Epson - Replacement Parts or try Celtronics, Inc. Brother Parts, Citizen Parts, Epson Parts

    Indeed.

    Ginko Oct 12, 2008

I quote from you : "The Epson Customer Service people suggested that my described problem
is beyond DIY possibilities, and I should consider replacement."

That was already a good solution, I also explained you in details how to repair the printer, clearly I do not have all printer models on the market to take pictures.

If you want to repair it follow my indications, if you are an engineer it shouldn't be too difficult.

You can also simply buy the Print head cleaner cartridge.and flush the printheads, that is easy.

The rest of the discussions are not concerned to the solution.

If you follow the indications, in one way or another you will solve your problem.

If you do not want follow the indications given, well the solution is there, what else can I say.

Get a cleaner cartridge and try the easy way, or follow indications to remove printhead, pull up the three tabs unscrew the sides and pull it up.

  • Ginko
    Ginko Oct 12, 2008

If you do not even want to spend the money to buying a printer cleaning cartridge, you can build one using an empty cartridge and following instructions here:Printhead Cleaning

Naturally, as usual, you do all repair operations suggested at your risk.

    Regards

  • Ginko
    Ginko Oct 12, 2008

One last hint, if you decide to build your own cleaner cartridge, follow instructions on website, but fill it 30% isopropyl alcohol, and 70% distilled water, do not use detergent and tap water, it is safer.

DEll A940 won't print text or graphics

First, use the menu on the printer or the program for the printer on your pc to clean the print heads. May also have other options to repair such problems. If this does not work, uninstall the driver and go to Dell.com and click on their support page. Follow the instructions on that page (will ask for service tag) and download the newest driver. Install the driver and test the printer. Do not forget to make it the default printer.

If none of these options work, check if your still under warranty and contact dell. Otherwise, you need to send it in for repairs...but most likely, it is more cost effective to buy a new one. Your choice.

Al-1540 only scans, wont print says-data could not be sent to pri

it seems that the computer was trying to send the data to the printer through the wrong port. i went to the control panel in windows xp, and selected printers and scanners. and added a new printer (manually) as al-1540 cs on usb port 2. it alerted me that the software was not signed, i proceeded anyways. it asked if i wanted to keep the original printer , i said yes. and the test page printed away. so i would suggest people with similar problem to keep adding multiple copies of the printer again and again on usb ports 1,2,3... etc till it prints the test page. use the copy no. indicated in the printed test page to do all your print jobs in the future.

1 Answer

Does not print

The CX series printers use a pigment based ink, and if it dries it frms a semi hard gooy substance on the printer ink input pins.

Sometimes after the insertion of new cartridges (Ensuring the yello tab is removed) and letting them sit overnight (to soften the ink blob) and running several cleaning cycles can unblock the ink "jam". Note: Epsons printer head need ink to cool them when printing (Sort of like oil in a car) so don;t try to print withot having ink flowing to the heads. It can also ruin the print head by overheating.

If all else fails there are several companies that sell inkjet cleaning solution. You may need a couple of cartridges to flush blocked jets but if will most likey work if the print head is still functional.

Otherwise, the technican is correct, you may need to purchase a new printer.

Note; For the future... Never let the ink run out of any cartridge without immediately replacing the cartridge. Never remove an empty cartridge without replacing it immediately.
