Sony camcorders C:31:23 error
Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.
good luck

SOURCE: The no tape and eject symbols are flashing at the same time.

Those signs means Record tab on tape is ON, eject tape and check record tab and make sure to set it on Record position.

SOURCE: Sony DCR-HC38 error C:31:22 re-insert tape.

Sony is a ******* piece of **** corporation that has foisted their name on professionals and consumers as being the epitome of high technology for all forms of media.  They are, in fact, scam artists that have perfected the art of programmed obsolescence and early life failures for their equipment.  Because I have been a professional video/audio engineer for 30 years, I have been forced to own and use more Sony gear than I am comfortable admitting to.  There is NO answer to your dilemma because it is a defect programmed into the circuitry of Sony DV-Cams that will ultimately force you to take the machine in for repairs...again and again and again and again....

Do your self a huge favor and smash that piece of **** with a sledge hammer right now.  Then, go out and buy a Canon.  Great products and great tech support.  Sorry I couldn't solve your problem for you.  But, I am an engineer and I can't even solve this one myself.

SOURCE: loading tapes

Sony HDR models that the carriage won't close is caused by the mode switch on the chassis. The mode switch controls the cameras function for loading and loading of the cassette. Basically tells the electronics what is happening. This becomes dirty and causes the chassis not to complete it's cycle on eject. Thus staying open. It has no idea where the mechanism is at this time. It can be cleaned and realigned but the chassis needs to be removed to get at it. Definitely a service depot repair. Sorry!

Sony DCR-HC42 cassette won't load completely. Door closes all the way without a cassette, but only closes hal way ith a cassete.

Tape mechanism problems can be quite complicated. This will require disassembling the camera to repair and can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Sony model# SLV-D500P: The casset loading motor does not stop

Hi, thats is a mode switch and mechanism
alignement problem;;; if you turn manually
loading motor belt vcr unpluged until the cassette
housing is in loading position dont put a tape in,,
plug it again the cassette housing should go back in eject position thats is a good way to verify the mechanism. then try first to replace the loading belt
the idler wheel and the capstan belt then try to insert
a tape in if it doesnt work you wil have to clean the mode switch and verify the mechanism alignement
if you not sure or not familiar about this process
you can hask a friend who you know he is familiar whit this or see a repair shop its a 30 minute job
hope that will help you
have a nice day

Sony dcr-trv350 tape wont close

there is a risk of hardware damage.make sure you dont force the tape into the cassette compartment to avoid damage to the unit or tape.here's what you can do.
1.remove the tape from the compartment.
2.ensure proper type and size of tape is used.
3.ensure no packaging material or foreign material inside the compartment.
4.if attempting to record, make sure cassette tape rec/save switch is set to rec position.
5.reinsert the tape, make sure it's properly inserted.
6.if still won't close or tape ejected again, remove tape.
7.reinsert a diff tape.
8.attempt to close compartment.
9.if issue unresolved, press the tiny reset button while cam is powered on (located in the panel where the lcd screen goes to,just below all the other buttons). you may also do a power reset procedure: remove batt, remove ac adaptor, set power switch to vcr, leave the cam without power for at least a minute, switch power back to off, reinsert ac adaptor/batt and turn cam on, attempt to close tape compartment.

if issue persists, service would be needed. hope this helps.thanks:)

Could be a worn out belt? The cassette loads it the drive down too much. Hence why it turns with no tape.

  1. I'm having the exact same problem. It wont accept the cassette...only half way then errors. It will close fully without a cassette as well. hmmmmm
Comment by Guest, posted on Apr 02, 2008 Load cassette, turn it on, then message says re-load cassette. Door to cassette compartment only works half way. After fiddling with power, can get the cassette door to open and close all the way, but not with cassette. Tried several brands of cassettes, no joy.

Canon ZR60 Mini DV Digital, remove the cassete message

This is a tape transport problem and is expensive to fix. Unless you know a cheap tech, it's time for a new one. Be patient loading and unloading tapes. This is usually what causes this problem. The Yellow warning sticker is REALLY important. Another important item is to always use the same brand of tape because switching tapes causes a gummy build-up the makes tapes get caught in the machine.
