Here what is happen my sister law had a Belkin router that went bad she got a norther Belkin router not the same one but it a Belkin here what going on she try to hook it up and she Chang to use broadband...

The ISP modem connects to the wireless routers main port. Then connect the PC to any other port on the router.

Use the default wireless settings that Belkin provides. There is a small tag under the unit with the default information. Or, use custom settings in the web admin.

How do i connect a netgear wireless router to comcast modem

Unplug your Comcast modem from your electrical outlet. Connect the Ethernet cord from the back of your Comcast modem into the Ethernet port labeled "Internet" on your new router. Connect an available Ethernet port from the back of the new router to the Ethernet port on the back of your computer.

Plug your cable modem into an electrical outlet. Plug your new router in an electrical outlet.

Reboot your computer. Click on "Start," then "Control panel." Click "Network and sharing." Select "Set up a new home network."

Click on the option for a router or cable modem when prompted by Windows to select your hardware. Your computer will attempt to access your new router. When the brand name for your router is listed, double-click it so your computer can configure itself to the new router.

Create a new name for your home network and create a unique password to prevent unauthorized users on your network. Your computer may reset your Comcast modem and router so your new changes can take effect.

The laptop is unable to recognise that a wireless router exists within the laptop, it was working for part of the weekend and then suddenly after disc clean up and defrag it has dissappeared. I have...

I assume you might have degragged the drive because of some irratic behavior not affecting your wireless card. Is your laptop detecting any other wireless networks? Restoring your system should have taken care of that, but when did you install the router, recently? And if you're not detecting the router, do you know for sure that the wireless part of the router is working? Also, there is a wireless card on/off switch on many laptops- make sure it didn't get moved to the off position. Since you defragged your system, this makes me think maybe some other problem is going on, but without more information, there's not much I can guess about. If you have a neighbor or friend with a laptop, see if they're getting your modem's signal, then go from there. Good luck, crazy problem.

Gateway laptop wont connect to power

The only thing you can really do in this case is call gateway and see if they can repair this. it seems like something internal. Hopefully the computers are still under warranty. Sorry for the bad news.

Is the router for your use only or for a lot of people, if it's your own dedicaced router, simply reset it by the button on the back or the router should solve your problem.
If not working, by the router config; usually accessed through your browser, typing in the adress 192.168.1.1, find the security menu, and the MAC filtering option, deactivate it, and retry.
If always not working, we stay here...

I have a linksys WRT546 wireless G router someone gave me. I want to connect it to my laptop which is wireless ready and compatible. What type of software or other directions do I need to make it work...

You don't need any extra software.

Connect ethernet cable between PC and router
On back of router may be a IP number like 192.186.1.1
Open internet explorer and type in this number
It may ask you for a password - try no password or 'admin'
If you cannot guess the password becuase it has been set to an unknown word. reset the router using hidden button on back.
Once you have a menu, use the wizard to input your ISP login name and password.
To set up wireless, set an SSID (any name - e.g. fred).
Try to get wireless working between laptop and router.
Once it works, set a WEP key in the router and computer for better security.

I'm guessing you don't have the key to join the wireless network. If you have an ethernet cord you can hook your laptop directly into one of the numbered ports into the back of your router. After it's hooked up open a web browser such as internet explorer or safari. In the address bar type http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 and a password dialog should pop up and the default router username is admin and password is admin. If thosed don't work try either admin blank or blank admin. After that you should have a page with tabs at the top click on the one that says wireless, then there should be a sub-tab called security that has the wireless key there.

If the admin password doesn't work there is a small red button on the back of the router that you can press with a pen and hold down for 15 seconds to reset the router to factory defaults that means no wireless password and that the wireless netwok will go back to the default name "linksys" . Though if you choose this route you might look into putting a password on your wireless depending on how crowded your neighborhood is. If you need any more help drop me a line on this question.

On the left front of the WRT54G wireless router, which is what I assume you have there is a light that says Cisco. It is actually a Universal Plug and Play button. Plug in the router to the DSL, the DSL will go in the port that is by itself, the others are numbered. The diagram that came with your router shows you where to put the DSL interface.

Now plug your PC into one of the other ports, and turn the laptop on with the wireless turned on too. Then press this button. It will turn from steady yellow to flashing white for a bit. It will use universal plug and play to set itself up.

Hope this helps. Also, if you want to reset the router to the factory state, press the button on the back of the router for 5 seconds and unplug it. Then keep holding it and plug it back in.
